Praying the Scriptures

Tuesday Evening Prayer

November 5, 2024

The eyes of the Lord are on those who love him, a mighty shield and strong support, a shelter from scorching wind and a shade from noonday sun, a guard against stumbling and a help against falling. (Sirach 34:19)

O Lord,

As the sun sets over the vast desert and the chill of November whispers through the mesa, I come before You in the quiet of this evening, seeking the warmth of Your presence. The hues of the fading light remind me of the fleeting nature of all earthly things.

You, O God, who sees into the depths of our hearts, know the origins of all our offerings. Let not my hands be stretched out to You with gifts borne of injustice or deceit. Purify my intentions, that I may offer You a sacrifice that is acceptable and pleasing in Your sight.

In this serene moment, under the expansive New Mexican sky, I ask You to guide my actions and my decisions. May I pursue righteousness with a fervor that matches the beauty of Your creation, visible in every star that now punctuates the night.

Help me to walk in integrity and truth so that my life might reflect Your love and justice. As the cool air settles around me, envelop me in Your peace and inspire me to acts of kindness and generosity born of a grateful heart.

Bless this night, O Lord, and all who dwell under Your vast canopy. May we rest in the assurance of Your grace and awaken to a dawn of fresh possibilities.

Amen.

May this prayer bring solace and inspiration as you end your day in reflection and peace.
