Praying the Scriptures

Wednesday Evening Prayer

November 27, 2024

Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. (Psalm 25:8–9)

Gracious Lord,

As the sun sets over the desert horizon and the chill of November evening envelops the land, I pause to give You thanks. Your goodness and uprightness are as steadfast as the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and Your mercy flows as freely as the Rio Grande.

You teach sinners Your way, Lord—a way of compassion, humility, and truth. I am grateful for the times You have guided me along paths of righteousness, even when I have strayed into the arid wilderness of my own stubbornness.

Tonight, beneath the vast New Mexican sky, I feel the weight of Your presence. Teach me once more to walk in humility, to seek Your wisdom like the first morning light touching the desert sands. Make me a student of Your way, and help me to lead others gently, as You have led me.

Guide those who are burdened this evening, Lord. Comfort the weary traveler and bring warmth to those facing the cold. May Your spirit fill this sacred desert so that all who call upon You may find peace in their hearts.

I place my trust in You, the One who makes straight the path of the humble. Walk with me this evening and always, my Shepherd, my Teacher, my Lord.

Amen.

May this prayer bring you comfort and strength as you reflect on God's promises this evening.
