Praying the Scriptures
Thursday Evening Prayer
December 26, 2024
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. (John 3:16)
Heavenly Father,
On this holy night of Christmas, I pause in the quiet of my heart and the beauty of this desert land to reflect on Your boundless love. You loved the world so much that You gave Your only Son, Jesus, so that I—and all who believe—may not perish but have eternal life.
Tonight, under the vast New Mexican sky, where the stars shine like messengers of Your grace, I am humbled by the gift of Christ. You sent Him not as a judge but as a Savior. He came to offer light where darkness lingers, to bring life where death seeks to claim dominion, and to pour out love that heals every wound.
Lord, I confess that I often fall short of reflecting that love. Help me, on this Second Day of Christmas, to share the love You have shown me with those around me—whether it be a neighbor in need, a stranger passing through, or my own loved ones. Like the luminarias that line the paths here in the desert Southwest, let my life shine with the light of Christ, guiding others toward You.
O Lord, as the day fades into night, I give You my thanks for Your steadfast love—a love that transforms, a love that endures. I surrender to Your will and rest in Your promises, knowing that You hold me and all creation in Your tender care.
Watch over me and my loved ones tonight, O God. As the chill of the evening settles over this land, blanket us with Your peace. May I sleep in the comfort of Your eternal love, awake refreshed, and ready to continue celebrating the miracle of Christ’s birth.
In the name of Your precious Son, Jesus, I pray.
Amen.
May this prayer bring you peace and comfort as you end your day.
