Praying the Scriptures

Tuesday Evening Prayer

December 24, 2024

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord.… And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!” (Luke 2:10–11, 13–14)

Heavenly Father,

As I gather under the serene New Mexican sky this Christmas Eve, my heart rejoices in the stillness of this holy night. In the quiet of the desert, I hear the echoes of the angel's message, "Do not be afraid; for see—I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people: to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord."

Lord, just as the shepherds in the fields watched over their flocks by night, I stand in awe of Your creation, under the vastness of the starlit sky, feeling the gentle breeze, whispering the promise of peace. With the heavenly host, I raise my voice to say, "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!"

On this blessed evening, as the chill of the desert night wraps around us, warm our hearts with the fire of Your love. Let the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ, kindle in us a flame of compassion, kindness, and mercy towards one another. Illuminate our paths with the light of hope that shone so brilliantly in Bethlehem's sky so many years ago.

In the spirit of this season, may we embody the peace and goodwill proclaimed by the angels. Guide us to be instruments of Your peace in our families, in our communities, and in our world. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, fill us with renewed strength and joy to carry Your love into the new year.

In the name of Your precious gift, our Savior, we pray,

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
