Praying the Scriptures

Tuesday Evening Prayer

December 31, 2024

Long ago you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you endure; they will all wear out like a garment. You change them like clothing, and they pass away; but you are the same, and your years have no end. (Psalm 102:25–27)

O Ancient of Days,

As the final hours of this year whisper their farewell, I come before You with gratitude and awe. You laid the foundations of the earth long before my fleeting days, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. Though this world changes and ages, You remain the same—constant, steadfast, eternal.

Tonight, under the vast New Mexican skies, I lift my heart to You, knowing that while the stars may flicker and fade, Your light never dims. The desert air is crisp and still, and I feel the weight of Your timeless presence. Even as the winds carry the scent of piñon and juniper, I am reminded that all creation bows to Your majesty.

This past year, like the sands of the desert, has slipped through my fingers. There have been moments of beauty and joy, and others of sorrow and uncertainty. Yet through it all, You have been my rock, my refuge, and my guide. Your faithfulness endures beyond the fleeting moments of time, just as the mountains endure beyond the shadows of the sunset.

As I stand on the threshold of a new year, I surrender my fears and hopes into Your hands. The year ahead is unformed and unknown, but You, O Lord, are unchanging. Clothe me in Your strength and wisdom, so I may walk the path You have set before me with courage and grace.

May Your enduring love shape my days and my dreams. May Your timeless truth guide my words and actions. And may Your everlasting presence comfort me, no matter what lies ahead.

I rest tonight in the assurance that You are with me, Lord, just as You have been with generations past and will be with those yet to come. You are my Alpha and Omega, the one true constant in this ever-shifting world.

With praise on my lips and peace in my heart, I bid farewell to this year and welcome the next, trusting fully in You, my eternal God.

In the name of Jesus Christ, who was, and is, and is to come.

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
