Praying the Scriptures
Wednesday Evening Prayer
December 25, 2024
For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)
Heavenly Father,
As the sun sets over the vast desert skies, painting the horizon with hues of gold and crimson, I pause in this holy stillness to marvel at the wonder of this day. For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and His name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
In the quiet of this evening, I am reminded of the sacredness of His birth, not in the grandeur of a palace, but in the humbleness of a manger. Just as the shepherds watched over their flocks under these same celestial heavens, I feel the weight of Your divine love, wrapped in swaddling clothes, bringing hope to a weary world.
I thank You, O Lord, for the blessings of this day—for the warmth of family, the fellowship of friends, and the joy of remembering the greatest gift of all. Tonight, as the luminarias glow softly along the paths, I ask that the light of Your Son shine brightly in my heart and in the hearts of all who call upon His name.
Prince of Peace, let Your peace settle over the windswept mesas and in every home tonight. Wonderful Counselor, guide my steps as I strive to walk in Your light, bringing kindness and love to all I encounter. Mighty God, fill me with strength to face the days ahead, trusting in Your eternal promise. Everlasting Father, hold me close as a parent cradles their child, reminding me of Your unfailing love.
In the crisp New Mexican night air, beneath the starlit expanse, I lift my prayer to You, grateful and humbled by the miracle of Emmanuel—God with us. May this Christmas Day close with Your blessing, and may Your peace rest upon me now and always.
In the precious name of Jesus, my Savior, I pray.
Amen.
May this prayer bring you comfort and strength as you reflect on God's promises this evening.
