Praying the Scriptures
Friday Evening Prayer
January 3, 2025
The LORD has proclaimed to the end of the earth: Say to daughter Zion, “See, your salvation comes; his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.” (Isaiah 62:11)
Gracious Lord,
As the sun sets over this New Mexican land, painting the sky with the hues of Your glory, I quiet my heart in Your presence. Beneath the vast desert heavens, I lift my spirit to You in gratitude and hope.
Your word resounds tonight, O God: You proclaim to the ends of the earth that salvation is near, that Your reward and recompense are carried in Your hands. I feel the weight of that promise, like the crisp evening breeze that sweeps over the mesas and carries with it whispers of Your love.
On this 10th day of Christmas, I am reminded that the joy of Your salvation is not confined to a single moment but flows through these days of celebration and beyond. You have drawn near, O Emmanuel, and Your nearness fills me with awe.
Lord, I pray for those who, like me, await Your full redemption. I bring before You my community—those in my church, those I encounter in this desert place, and those I carry in my heart. May the light of Your coming shine into every shadowed corner, bringing healing where there is hurt and peace where there is unrest.
Tonight, let my thoughts dwell on the vastness of Your mercy and the nearness of Your salvation. Let me see Your hand in the beauty of this land—the mountains standing steadfast, the stars declaring Your glory, and the quiet stillness that speaks of Your peace.
As I rest, may my dreams echo with the joy of Your salvation, and may my heart rise with fresh hope in the morning. You, O Lord, are faithful, and Your promises never fail. I rejoice in the gift of Your Son and the unshakable assurance that You are with me, now and forever.
In the name of Jesus, my Savior and Redeemer, I pray.
Amen.
May this prayer bring you peace and comfort this evening.
