Praying the Scriptures
Saturday Evening Prayer
January 4, 2025
And he said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified.” But I said, “I have labored in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing and vanity; yet surely my cause is with the LORD, and my reward with my God.” (Isaiah 49:3–4)
O Lord,
My soul rests in Your unfailing love as the 10th day of Christmas draws to a close. You have called me, saying, "You are my servant, in whom I will be glorified." In the stillness of this evening, I reflect on these words and the ways You have sought to glorify Yourself through my life.
There are times, Lord, when I feel as though my labor has been in vain, my strength spent for nothing. But tonight, as I gaze at the desert sky, where the stars burn brightly against the velvety blackness, I am reminded of Your faithfulness. In Your hands, nothing is wasted—not a single moment, not a single tear, not a single act of obedience, no matter how small it seems.
I thank You for the richness of this land I call home, for the mountains that stand as witnesses to Your majesty and the sagebrush that whispers of Your enduring presence. I see the beauty of New Mexico’s sunsets and hear Your still, small voice in the evening breeze.
Grant me, Lord, the faith to trust that my reward is with You and my recompense is in Your hands. Strengthen me to walk boldly into tomorrow, knowing that Your purposes for me are greater than I can comprehend.
As the light fades from this day, I lay my doubts and weariness before You. Fill me with Your peace, and let Your glory shine through me, however You see fit. Teach me to find joy in being Your servant, for in that, I find my true purpose.
I praise You, Lord, for the gift of this season, for the Christ Child who came into this world to redeem us all. May my life reflect His light as I await the dawning of a new day.
In the name of the Holy One who was, and is, and is to come, I pray.
Amen.
May this prayer bring peace and comfort to your evening.
