Praying the Scriptures
Wednesday Evening Prayer
January 1, 2025
Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9–10)
O Gracious Lord,
As the sun sets over the mesas and the chill of winter touches the desert air, I come before You in humble adoration. With a heart full of hope for the year that begins, I recall the words You taught us, O Lord—Your prayer that calls us to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness.
Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. As the new year unfolds beneath the vast New Mexico sky, may I walk in the light of Your holiness, ever mindful of the sanctity of Your name.
Your kingdom come, Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Tonight, as the eighth candle of Christmas burns softly beside me, I pray earnestly for Your kingdom to touch this earth. Let it start here in my heart, within my home, across this land—from the bustling streets of Albuquerque to the quiet solitude of the Gila Wilderness.
In this new beginning, teach me to see Your hand in the beauty of our land—from the snow-capped peaks to the Rio Grande's flowing waters. Grant me the courage to live out Your will, to offer peace where there is strife, and to bring hope where despair lingers.
As we step into this new year, let Your will be done in my actions and words. May my life reflect the grace and peace of Christ, just as the starlit New Mexican night sky reflects the endless possibilities of Your creation.
And Lord, on this eighth day of Christmas, as we remember the gift of Your son and the coming of the wise men, I ask for the wisdom to follow their example—seeking You with all my heart, bearing my gifts and my burdens with equal grace.
In the name of Jesus, who is Emmanuel, God with us, I pray.
Amen.
May this prayer bring you comfort and strength as you reflect on God's promises this evening.
