Praying the Scriptures

Monday Morning Prayer

January 6, 2025

In the time of King Herod, after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the child who has been born king of the Jews? For we observed his star at its rising, and have come to pay him homage.” (Matthew 2:1–2)

Good and gracious Lord,

As the sun rises over the desert this morning, painting the sky with hues of gold and crimson, I lift my heart to You in wonder and praise. Just as the wise men once saw a star in the East and set their hearts to seek the King of kings, I, too, long to follow the light of Your truth and kneel in awe before Your majesty.

Lord, I confess that my journey is often fraught with distractions, doubts, and the weariness of life’s burdens. Yet, Your light beckons me forward, reminding me that my Savior is near. Like those travelers of old, I come seeking the One who has been born King, guided by faith and the gentle nudging of Your Spirit.

Today, as I stand in this land of enchantment, I am surrounded by the beauty of Your creation—the rugged mountains, the vast skies, and the stillness of the morning air. They all proclaim Your glory and invite me to see the world as the magi did: filled with signs of Your presence and the hope of Your promises.

Lord, open my eyes to recognize the star You have placed before me. Open my heart to the joy of encountering Christ in the ordinary and the extraordinary moments of this day. And open my hands to offer the gifts I have—gifts of love, service, and devotion—to honor my King.

As I go about this day, may I carry the spirit of Epiphany with me, proclaiming Your light to a world in need. Let my words and actions be a reflection of Your grace so that others might be drawn to seek You, just as the wise men sought the child in Bethlehem.

Thank You, O God, for the gift of revelation and for calling me into the light of Your presence. May my life, like the star in the East, point others to Your everlasting love.

In the name of Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, I pray.

Amen.

May this prayer bring you peace and strength as you start your day.
