Praying the Scriptures

Saturday Evening Prayer

February 8, 2025

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, “Abba! Father!” it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God. (Romans 8:14-16)

Gracious and loving Father,

As the sun slips below the rugged peaks of the Florida Mountains, painting the sky in hues of amber and violet, I pause in the hush of this February evening to rest in Your presence. The cool desert air wraps around me, and the distant call of a night bird reminds me that all creation is held in Your hands.

Your Word tells me that all who are led by Your Spirit are children of God. I am not bound by fear, for You have not given me a spirit of slavery but a Spirit of adoption, through which I can call out to You, “Abba, Father.” In the stillness of this night, I listen for Your voice, that gentle whisper that assures me I am Yours.

Lord, as the stars emerge one by one in the vast sky above, I am reminded of the countless ways You have guided me, even through the wilderness of life. Though the path before me is sometimes uncertain, I walk with confidence, knowing that I am led by Your Spirit. I do not journey alone, for You are with me, as close as my very breath.

Tonight, I lift my heart to You in gratitude. Thank You for this land of open skies and quiet places, for the beauty of the desert even in its barrenness, and for the promise of renewal that lingers on the edge of the coming spring. Thank You for the warmth of Your love that sustains me through every season.

Keep me in Your peace as I rest, O Lord. Let my dreams be filled with Your promises, and may I rise with a heart ready to follow wherever Your Spirit leads. For I am Yours, a child of grace, adopted into the embrace of eternal love.

In the name of Jesus, my Savior and Brother, I pray.

Amen.

May this prayer bring peace and comfort to your evening.
