Praying the Scriptures

Wednesday Evening Prayer

February 12, 2025

Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this, that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven. (Luke 10:20)

Gracious and Loving God,

As the sun sets behind Red Hill, casting hues of amber and violet across the desert sky, I pause in Your presence, breathing in the stillness of this February evening. The cool air carries whispers of Your creation—rustling mesquite, distant coyote calls, the flickering glow of a hearth reminding me of Your eternal light.

Lord, You have blessed me this day, not merely in the work of my hands or the words I have spoken, but in the deeper truth that my name is written in heaven. It is not in accomplishments, nor even in the gifts You have given me, that I find my joy. Rather, it is in the certainty of Your love, the promise that I belong to You, now and forever.

When my spirit grows weary from the burdens of this world, remind me, O Lord, that my worth is not measured by earthly success, but by Your grace. Keep me from seeking affirmation in fleeting things and root me instead in the knowledge that I am Yours.

Tonight, I lift up those who wander in the darkness—those who feel lost, forgotten, or burdened by the weight of their own struggles. May they come to know the peace that surpasses all understanding, the joy that comes not from what they do, but from who they are in You.

As I lay my head to rest beneath the canopy of stars, may Your presence be my comfort, Your mercy my covering, and Your Spirit my guide. Let my soul rejoice, O Lord, for I am known by You.

In the name of Jesus, who calls me by name,

Amen.

May this prayer bring you comfort and strength as you reflect on God's promises this evening.
