Praying the Scriptures
Friday Evening Prayer
April 4, 2025
And John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him.… And I myself have seen and have testified that this is the Son of God.” (John 1:32, 34)
Heavenly Father,
As the sun dips below the peaks of the mountains and the evening breeze stirs the desert sage, I pause in the hush of twilight to lift my heart to You. The sky, painted in hues of gold and crimson, speaks of Your handiwork, and the whispering wind reminds me of Your ever-present Spirit.
Lord, I remember the testimony of John, how he saw the Spirit descending like a dove upon Jesus and declared, “This is the Son of God” (John 1:34). In this quiet moment, I, too, look for the movement of Your Spirit in my life. Open my eyes to see Your presence in the world around me—the soft cooing of the mourning doves, the rustling of mesquite branches, the coolness settling over the desert floor. Let these signs remind me that Your Spirit remains with me, guiding, comforting, and renewing me each day.
As the first stars begin to pierce the darkening sky, I rest in the certainty of Christ’s love. The same Spirit that descended upon Him now dwells in my heart, a constant beacon of grace and truth. In this vast and quiet land, I feel the stillness of Your peace and the nearness of Your presence.
Lord, as I lay down to rest, let Your Spirit watch over me as You watch over all creation. May I wake with a heart full of praise, ready to bear witness to Your love in the new day to come.
In Jesus’ holy name, I pray.
Amen.
May the Spirit who descended upon Christ rest upon you this night, filling your heart with peace, your soul with grace, and your dreams with the gentle whisper of God’s love.
