Praying the Scriptures
Friday Morning Prayer
April 4, 2025
And John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him.… And I myself have seen and have testified that this is the Son of God.” (John 1:32, 34)
Gracious and Almighty God,
As the golden light of morning spills over the rugged peaks of the Florida Mountains, I lift my heart to You. The desert air is crisp with the promise of a new day, and the scent of mesquite and sage drifts upon the gentle breeze. In the stillness of this sacred moment, I give You thanks.
Like John who saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove and remain upon Jesus, I, too, long to witness Your presence in my life. Open my eyes to behold Your glory in the sunrise, in the song of the canyon wren, and in the whisper of the wind through the ocotillo. Fill me with the certainty that, as John declared, “this is the Son of God” (John 1:34). May my faith be unwavering, rooted deep like the ancient juniper, steadfast in Your truth.
Lord, as I step into this day, let me move with the same humility and boldness as John, pointing others to Christ through my words and deeds. May my spirit be as light as the morning air and my heart as open as the desert sky. Let Your Spirit remain upon me, guiding me in love, kindness, and wisdom.
Bless this land, O Lord—the valleys and mesas, the rivers and dry arroyos, the creatures that roam the wilderness, and the people who call this desert home. Let Your presence be known in all creation, and let me walk this day as a faithful witness to Your Son, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
May the Spirit who descended upon Christ remain with me this day, guiding my steps with grace, filling my heart with peace, and leading me ever closer to the light of God’s love.
