Praying the Scriptures
Friday Evening Prayer
May 23, 2025
They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. (John 17:16-17)
Gracious Lord,
As the sun slips behind Red Mountain and dusk settles over the desert, I lift my heart to You in quiet surrender. The wind stirs the mesquite and the scent of creosote lingers in the air, reminding me of Your nearness even in the wilderness. In this hour between day and night, I rest in the truth of Your Word—a truth not shaped by this world, but by the eternal love You poured out through Your Son.
You have called me to live set apart, not removed from this world, but not owned by it either. Tonight, I ask You to sanctify me in Your truth. Let the noise of the world grow dim as Your voice becomes clearer. Make my life a reflection of Christ’s holiness—not by my effort, but by Your Spirit at work within me.
As the stars begin to pierce the sky and the silence deepens, remind me that I belong to You. Keep me grounded in the truth that does not fade with time or circumstance. Let Your Word be the compass that guides me, the light that leads me, and the shelter that holds me secure through the night.
Amen.
May the truth of God’s Word sanctify your heart this night, and may His peace dwell with you until the morning light.
