Praying the Scriptures
Saturday Evening Prayer
May 24, 2025
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. (Luke 4:18-19)
Gracious Lord,
As the sun slips behind Red Mountain and the warm hues of twilight settle across this desert land, I quiet my soul before You. The creosote breathes out its earthy fragrance, and the evening wind carries whispers of freedom across the open spaces.
Your Spirit is upon me, just as it was upon Your Son. In this holy stillness, I remember His words: “to bring good news to the poor… to proclaim release to the captives… recovery of sight to the blind… to let the oppressed go free… and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Lord, let those words take root in me tonight. Let them stir within me a holy longing—not just to receive, but to live them out.
You have set me free with Your grace. Now use me, even in my quiet, ordinary life, to be a bearer of hope and a vessel of healing. Let my presence bring comfort to the weary, and let my words speak peace to those in turmoil.
As night gathers over the wilderness and stars begin to shimmer above, I rest in the assurance that You are still at work—redeeming, restoring, and renewing. Let this evening be a sacred offering, and my heart a place where Your Spirit freely moves.
Amen.
May the Spirit of the Lord, who brings freedom and healing, watch over us through the night and lead us into the dawning of His favor.
