Praying the Scriptures

Friday Evening Prayer

July 25, 2025

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and prosper for us the work of our hands—O prosper the work of our hands! (Psalm 90:17)

O Lord my God,

The sun has slipped behind Red Mountain, leaving a gentle hush across the desert. The sky, once ablaze with amber and rose, now deepens into shades of indigo. The heat of the day lingers faintly in the sand beneath my feet, while the breeze begins to cool the air. I breathe in the earthy scent of creosote and sage, and as the first stars shimmer above me, I pause in stillness—grateful.

This day, like so many before it, was filled with small efforts—quiet acts of service, unseen tasks, and humble work. Some moments felt weighty, others fleeting, yet I carried them out as best I could, with hands that seek to honor You. And now, as twilight gathers and the earth exhales, I lift those labors to You.

Let Your favor, Lord, rest upon me. Prosper the work of my hands—not for my glory, but that Your goodness may shine through all I do. Without You, even the most noble endeavor fades like a shadow at dusk. But with You, the simplest task becomes holy.

So I entrust this day to You—its burdens, its blessings, its unfinished parts. And as night settles gently over the desert, I rest in the peace that only You provide. Guide my thoughts as they quiet, and cradle my heart in the certainty of Your love.

Amen.

May the peace of God settle over you like the stars above the desert, and may His favor rest upon all you have done this day.
