Praying the Scriptures
Sunday Evening Prayer
July 13, 2025
Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. (1 John 3:2)
O Lord of the setting sun and stars yet unseen,
I stand beneath the deepening sky, where the last golden light slips behind Red Mountain, and the hush of evening gathers like a gentle benediction. The mesquite branches whisper in the cooling breeze, and the scent of creosote rises like incense from the quiet earth. All creation seems to pause, watching, waiting—as if the desert itself remembers that we are dust, yet destined for glory.
Your Word stills my restless thoughts:
"Beloved, we are God's children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed."
These words fall over me like starlight—soft, mysterious, and full of promise.
I do not fully know what I am becoming, Lord, but I trust that I am Yours. And I trust that in Your time, when the veil is lifted, I will see You as You are—and in seeing You, be changed. What a wonder it is, that this fragile heart of mine, like this wild land around me, is being shaped for something eternal.
The stars begin to blink awake, one by one, scattered across the indigo sky—silent witnesses to Your faithfulness. They remind me that even in darkness, Your light is not far off.
So I rest tonight in quiet awe, my soul stretched wide in longing and hope. Keep shaping me, Lord. Keep revealing Yourself in the stillness and in the storms, in the small graces and the great mysteries. Let me wake tomorrow a little more like You.
Amen.
May the quiet of the desert night and the promise of your becoming in Christ fill you with peace, wonder, and steadfast hope.
