Praying the Scriptures
Sunday Evening Prayer
July 20, 2025
They shall be my people, and I will be their God. I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me for all time, for their own good and the good of their children after them. (Jeremiah 32:38–39)
O Lord my God,
The sun has slipped behind Red Mountain, and the last glow of daylight lingers like a quiet blessing across the desert floor. The creosote is still, the stones warm beneath my feet, and above me, the sky deepens from rose to indigo. One by one, the stars begin to appear—your quiet sentinels in the heavens.
Here in this sacred stillness, I feel the hush of Your presence, like the breath of the earth holding close to You. I am reminded tonight that I am not my own—I am Yours. We are Your people, and You are our God. That truth settles into me more deeply than the twilight shadows settling over the land.
Thank You for the promise of one heart and one way. In a world so full of scattered paths and divided minds, my soul longs for the steady rhythm of Your will—for a heart made whole in Your love and a life aligned with Your way. Teach me to walk in holy reverence—not out of fear, but out of trust. For my good. For the good of those who will come after me.
The desert tonight is not empty—it echoes with Your faithfulness. I see it in the resilience of the mesquite, the slow dance of the evening breeze, the quiet pulse of the stars. All of it speaks of Your constancy—Your covenant that does not fail.
So I lay myself down in peace beneath Your sky. I give You my worries, my hopes, my wandering thoughts. Shape my heart, O God, to be undivided. Let me rest tonight in the assurance that You are near, and that I am held—body and soul—by the God who gives one heart, one way, and everlasting love.
Amen.
May the God who calls us His own grant you one heart, one way, and peaceful rest beneath His faithful gaze tonight.
