Praying the Scriptures

Thursday Evening Prayer

July 10, 2025

O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. (Psalm 95:6–7)

O Lord, my Maker,

As the sun slips behind Red Mountain and shadows stretch long across the desert floor, I bow my heart before You. The last blush of twilight fades into deep indigo, and already the stars begin to whisper their praise across the heavens. All around me, the hush of evening settles—creosote still in the cool air, mesquite branches swaying ever so gently, the silence wide and sacred.

I come to worship and bow down—not with grand words or fanfare, but with a soul stilled by awe. You are God, and I am Yours. Like sheep who know the sound of their Shepherd’s voice, I find comfort tonight in being held within Your hand. In this vast, unending wilderness, You know my name.

Thank You for walking with me through this day. For every breath, every challenge, every moment where Your grace met me in my weakness—I give You thanks. And now, as the sky turns dark and quiet, I ask for rest. Let the peace that fills this desert seep into my bones. Watch over me as I sleep, and if I should wake in the night, let me remember the stars—reminders that You neither slumber nor sleep.

You formed these rugged hills and painted this sky. And yet, You bend low to hear my prayer. What mystery, what mercy.

So tonight, I kneel in spirit beneath Your wide sky and say again: You are my God. I am the sheep of Your pasture, the work of Your hand. Lead me through this night and into the promise of a new day.

Amen.

May the Shepherd of your soul watch over you through the night, and may His peace settle gently upon you like starlight on the desert.
