Praying the Scriptures
Thursday Evening Prayer
July 24, 2025
Do not, therefore, abandon that confidence of yours; it brings a great reward. For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. (Hebrews 10:35–36)
O Lord, my God,
The sun has just slipped behind Red Mountain, leaving behind a trail of fire-kissed light that slowly fades into the deep blue of night. The air, at last, is cooling. A soft wind weaves through the creosote and sagebrush, carrying with it the scent of dust and life and something sacred. The hush of nightfall has settled over the desert, and I am here—still—beneath the sky You painted and the stars You have called by name.
I confess, Lord, I am tired. Not only in body, but in spirit. The road has felt long lately—winding and dry, and sometimes so quiet I’ve wondered if You still walk it with me. I know Your Word says not to abandon my confidence, that it brings a great reward. I believe that. I do. But there are moments, Lord, when waiting wears on me, when promises seem distant, and endurance feels more like standing still than running the race.
Yet here, in this silence, with the stars beginning to pierce the heavens above Red Mountain, I feel You near.
You have not left me. Even when I waver, even when the path feels obscured by shadows, You are still faithful. You remind me—again tonight—that endurance is not just surviving the wait but trusting You in it. That when I have done Your will, in Your time, I will receive what You have promised. And that is enough to carry me through this twilight.
So I breathe in this desert stillness. I lift my eyes to the indigo sky, and I lay my doubts before You. Strengthen my heart, Lord. Steady my feet. Restore to me the confidence I once had—not in myself, but in You. For You are the One who never changes, who keeps His word, and who walks beside me—even now.
Tonight, I surrender again. Not to despair, but to hope. Not to fear, but to faith. I will wait, Lord. I will endure—not by my own strength, but by Yours. And beneath these ancient stars, I will rest in the quiet promise of Your reward.
Amen.
May the quiet of this desert night renew your strength, and may the promises of God carry you with confidence and peace until the morning light.
