Praying the Scriptures

Thursday Evening Prayer

July 3, 2025

…constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:4-6)

O Lord,

As the sun sinks behind Red Mountain, painting the desert in warm gold and amber, I pause in the quiet hush of evening to lift my heart to You. The wind moves softly through the mesquite, and a lone nighthawk calls across the wide expanse—echoes of Your steadfast presence as day gives way to night.

Tonight, on the eve of our nation's celebration of freedom, I give You thanks—not only for the blessings of liberty and peace but for the faithful hearts You have knit together in Christ. I think with joy of those who walk this journey with me, who have shared in the gospel from the first day until now. In every memory, every step, and every trial, I see the fingerprints of Your grace.

Lord, I trust Your promise. What You have begun in each of us—individually and as a people—you will bring to completion. In the long shadows stretching across the sand, I see not an end, but a path forward, shaped by perseverance, grounded in love, and lit by hope.

Help me rest tonight with confidence in Your work, even when progress feels slow or unseen. May my prayers join with those across this land, rising like incense in gratitude and in faith, believing that You are still shaping us—still healing, still guiding, still calling us to be Your people of peace, justice, and light.

In the name of Jesus, whose good work never fails, I pray.

Amen.

May the peace of Christ settle over you like the desert twilight, assuring you that the good work God has begun in you will not be left unfinished.
