Praying the Scriptures
Monday Morning Prayer
July 21, 2025
My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God. Happy are those who live in your house, ever singing your praise. (Psalm 84:2–4)
O Lord of hosts, my King and my God,
As the first golden light spills over the ridgeline of the Florida Mountains, painting the desert floor in hues of honey and rose, I breathe in the stillness of this sacred morning. The creosote stirs gently in the breeze, releasing its fragrant memory of last night’s dew, and the air carries the soft rustle of waking wings. I hear the song of the canyon wren rise and fall—pure, unhurried joy echoing across the stones—and I find my soul singing with it.
This morning, like the sparrow, I seek my place in Your presence. My heart longs, yes, even faints, to be near You. Not just near the beauty of Your creation, Lord, but to dwell within Your courts, where holiness and peace abide. The rising sun reminds me that You are faithful—renewing, sheltering, and calling all creatures home.
My body, my spirit, my very breath joins creation’s quiet chorus of praise. How happy are those who live continually in Your house—who rise and rest with Your name on their lips. And though I live in this desert valley, I know Your altar is not far. You have made a home in me, just as You’ve made one for the birds beneath Your eaves.
Thank You for this new day. Thank You for the grace of longing that leads me back to You. Let my life today be a song sung from Your sanctuary, wherever I walk.
Amen.
May the longing of your soul lead you ever deeper into the joy of God's presence, where even the smallest sparrow finds her rest.
