Worth the Wait
And thus Abraham, having patiently endured, obtained the promise. (Hebrews 6:15)
Introduction
Waiting is not something most of us do well. Yet Scripture continually reminds us that waiting is an essential part of faith. Abraham’s long journey of waiting shows us that God’s timing is purposeful and trustworthy. In the pause between promise and fulfillment, God is shaping us.
Reflection
Think of the last time you sat in a waiting room at the doctor’s office. You checked your watch. You scrolled your phone. You stared at the clock as though sheer willpower might make the minutes move faster. In that waiting room, nothing you did could speed up the process. All you could do was sit until your name was called.
Life with God often feels the same. We want answers now, blessings now, relief now. But God uses waiting not as wasted time but as shaping time. Abraham lived many years under the weight of a promise he could not see fulfilled. His story reminds us that faith is not just believing in God’s promises but enduring the waiting with trust that God is faithful.
Application
This week, take one area of your life where you feel restless in waiting—whether for healing, provision, or direction—and turn that waiting into prayer. Each time impatience rises, say aloud, “Lord, I trust Your timing.” Let the act of waiting become a daily practice of faith instead of frustration.
Conclusion
Waiting may be one of life’s hardest challenges, but it is also one of God’s greatest tools for building our faith. Abraham’s story assures us that every promise of God finds its “yes” in His time. And when His answer comes, we can look back and honestly say, “It was worth the wait.”
Prayer
Lord, You know how restless my heart can be. Waiting feels hard, sometimes unbearable. Yet I know that Your timing is perfect and Your promises are sure. Teach me to trust You in the silence, to rest in Your faithfulness, and to find strength in the waiting. May I grow in patience and hope, believing that what You have promised You will surely fulfill. Amen.
