Praying the Scriptures
Friday Evening Prayer
September 12, 2025
When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birth pangs… And the good news must first be proclaimed to all nations… and you will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. (Mark 13:7–8, 10, 13)
Lord God,
As the sun sinks behind the mountains west of Deming and the desert sky deepens into twilight, I lift my eyes to the first stars twinkling above me. In this stillness, I hear again the words of Your Son: that there will be wars and rumors of wars, nations rising against nations, and the earth groaning with earthquakes and turmoil. These things unsettle my heart, Lord, and remind me of how fragile life feels in a world that trembles with unrest.
Yet here, under the vast heavens of New Mexico, I find peace in Your presence. You have promised that the good news will be proclaimed to all nations, and that those who endure in Christ will be saved. Tonight, I choose to rest in that promise. I place my fears in Your hands, and I cling to the endurance of Christ, knowing that Your salvation is greater than every storm of this world.
Keep me steadfast, Lord, as the night deepens and tomorrow’s uncertainties remain unseen. Like the stars emerging one by one, may Your hope shine in my heart, guiding me to trust that no matter what troubles may come, You hold me securely in Your love.
In Jesus’ holy name I pray.
Amen.
May the Lord who holds the heavens steady also guard your heart in steadfast peace, until the dawn of His promised salvation.
