Praying the Scriptures
Monday Evening Prayer
September 8, 2025
Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” And I say, “It is my grief that the right hand of the Most High has changed.” I will call to mind the deeds of the LORD; I will remember your wonders of old. I will meditate on all your work, and muse on your mighty deeds. (Psalm 77:9–12)
Lord,
As the shadows lengthen and the coolness of September settles over the earth, I bring before You the questions that sometimes rise within my heart: “Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has His steadfast love ceased forever?” In the stillness of this evening, I admit the weight of such doubts, for there have been seasons when Your silence has felt heavy and Your face hidden from me.
Yet as the twilight deepens, I turn my thoughts to Your works of old. I remember the stories of deliverance written in Scripture and whispered in my own life. I recall the mercies that carried me when my strength failed, the moments when light broke through my darkness, and the quiet assurances that reminded me I was never abandoned.
The cooling air and falling leaves speak to me of Your faithfulness in every season. Just as summer yields to autumn in its appointed time, so too do my trials give way to Your renewal. The path has not always been level, but Your hand has steadied me, and Your Spirit has guided me back when I wandered.
Tonight, I choose to remember Your mighty deeds and proclaim them to my soul. You are the same God who split seas, who fed multitudes, who raised the broken to new life. And You are the same God who has held me through storm and silence alike.
So I lay down my doubts with the setting sun, and I rise in hope with the stars now kindling the night sky. Teach me to rest in Your unchanging mercy, to trust that even when I cannot see, Your steadfast love endures. Let this September night close with peace upon my heart, for You, O Lord, are my refuge and my song.
Amen.
May the Lord who remembers His people bless you with peace this night, guiding your heart from doubt to trust and from silence to the assurance of His steadfast love.
