Praying the Scriptures
Saturday Evening Prayer
September 13, 2025
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God—not the result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8–9)
Lord of mercy and light,
As the sun has slipped below the western horizon of Deming and the desert sky now shimmers with the first twinkling of stars, I lift my heart to You in gratitude. Thank You for this day just lived, for the moments of labor and rest, for every breath and blessing that has come not by my merit, but by Your loving hand.
I confess, O Lord, that I have no strength in myself to earn Your favor. My works are feeble, my heart so often strays, and I am prone to pride when I try to stand on my own. Yet You remind me, in the stillness of this evening, that salvation is not of my doing—it is Your gift, freely given in Jesus Christ.
And so I rejoice beneath this vast desert sky, knowing that by grace I have been saved through faith. It is not my boasting that fills this quiet night, but my wonder at Your endless love. As the stars multiply above me, so do the assurances of Your mercy, covering me with peace.
Keep me in Your grace as I rest tonight, O Lord, and awaken me with the dawn, still mindful that I live only by the gift of Your salvation.
Amen.
May the Lord who saves us by grace alone watch over your rest tonight, and awaken you in the morning renewed in faith and peace.
