Praying the Scriptures
Saturday Evening Prayer
September 20, 2025
Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall laud your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. (Psalm 145:3–5)
Lord,
As the sun sinks low and the fields rest in the hush of evening, I lift my heart in awe before You. Great are You, O Lord, and greatly to be praised; Your greatness stretches beyond my knowing, deeper than the gathering shadows, higher than the colors fading from the September sky.
I breathe in the cooling air, carrying with it the scent of harvest and the whisper of autumn’s turning. The lengthening shadows remind me that time moves on, yet through every season Your works endure. I think of those who came before me, who lifted their voices in praise, and I am humbled to add my voice to theirs. One generation has told Your story to another, and now I stand, declaring with gratitude the mighty acts I have seen in my own life.
Tonight, I meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty. The beauty of Your creation surrounds me—the rustling leaves, the quiet fields, the fading light—and all of it points me back to You. My soul finds peace in the knowledge that just as You have been faithful in the past, You will be faithful in the days yet to come.
So I give thanks, Lord, for Your unsearchable greatness, for Your works that span generations, and for the hope that rests secure in You. As I lay my head down, I entrust myself to Your keeping, confident that Your mercy greets me anew with tomorrow’s dawn.
Amen.
May the peace of God, whose greatness is unsearchable and whose mercy spans every generation, guard your heart tonight and grant you rest until the dawn.
