Praying the Scriptures

Sunday Evening Prayer

September 7, 2025

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. (1 Peter 1:3–4)

Blessed be You, O God and Father of my Lord Jesus Christ.

Tonight, as the September sun sinks low and the air cools around me, I lift my heart in gratitude for Your mercy. By Your grace, You have given me new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. That hope steadies me, even when the day has been long and my strength feels worn.

The light fades and the shadows stretch across the land, reminding me how quickly earthly things pass away. The leaves that begin to turn and fall whisper to me of the fleeting nature of time. Yet in You, Lord, nothing is wasted, nothing fades. You have promised me an inheritance that cannot perish, that remains undefiled, eternal, and secure in heaven.

I see Your faithfulness in the changing of the seasons, in the rhythm of creation that speaks of Your constancy. Just as the day yields to night, and summer gives way to autumn, so too my life is held in the sure promise of Your unchanging love.

So this evening I rest my soul in You. Take my weariness, my worries, and my wandering thoughts, and renew me with the quiet peace of Your presence. Strengthen my faith and refresh my hope for tomorrow, that I may rise again with joy to walk in the living hope of Christ.

Amen.

May the God of mercy and hope guard your rest this night and awaken you with renewed faith and joy in His eternal promises.
