Praying the Scriptures

Thursday Morning Prayer

September 18, 2025

The twelve gates are twelve pearls, each of the gates is a single pearl, and the street of the city is pure gold, transparent as glass. I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb. And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb. (Revelation 21:21–23)

Lord of Glory,

I thank You for this new September morning—for the coolness in the air, the soft light stretching across the horizon, and the quiet promise of a day yet to unfold. As the seasons turn, I am reminded of the greater promise of Your eternal city, where no shadow lingers and every gate is open wide with welcome.

How wondrous is the vision You have given: gates of pearl that shine with purity, streets of gold clear as glass, and the radiance of Your glory filling all. Even the brightest sun cannot compare with the brilliance of Christ, the Lamb, whose light never wanes nor fades. As this day dawns, I see in the rising light a faint reflection of that eternal splendor, and my heart is filled with awe.

Today, O Lord, let me walk in the brightness of Your presence. Chase away my fears with the certainty of Your love. Guard my steps, that I may follow the path You set before me with courage and peace. May my words reflect Your grace, and my actions carry the fragrance of Your kingdom.

And yet, while my heart longs for that day when every tear is wiped away and Your dwelling is fully among us, I ask for the strength to be faithful here and now. Teach me to live as a citizen of heaven even as I walk these earthly streets, bearing witness to the light that no darkness can overcome.

Until the fullness of Your kingdom comes, let my life today be a small reflection of its beauty.

Amen.

May the unending light of Christ, the Lamb, guide your steps this day and keep your heart steadfast in the hope of His eternal kingdom.
