Praying the Scriptures

Saturday Evening Prayer

October 4, 2025

Then looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” And immediately his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. (Mark 7:34–35)

Lord Jesus,

As the sun slips behind the horizon and the cool air of autumn settles over this Saturday evening, I pause in gratitude. The lengthening shadows, the quiet rustle of leaves, and the calm that fills the air remind me of Your steady presence at the close of this day. Thank You for the gift of rest that comes with evening and the beauty that prepares my heart for the Lord’s Day.

Tonight, I hear again Your word: “Ephphatha—be opened.” You spoke life and freedom to the one whose ears could not hear and whose tongue was bound in silence. Lord, I long to receive that same word in my own soul. Open my ears to hear Your voice more clearly, above the noise and distractions that crowd my days. Open my heart to receive Your truth without resistance. Open my lips to speak with honesty, kindness, and courage, that my words may bring grace to others.

As the autumn night deepens, I sense how this season mirrors my prayer—cool air that quiets the world, shadows that invite reflection, stillness that prepares me for what is to come. May this Saturday evening be more than an ending; may it be a threshold into the newness You bring each morning.

Lord, breathe Your word of “be opened” into every part of me—my faith, my relationships, my service. Prepare me to enter Sunday with renewed spirit, ready to worship You with joy and to walk in the freedom of Your love.

In Your holy name I pray,

Amen.

May the Lord who speaks “Ephphatha—be opened” bless you with ears to hear, lips to proclaim, and a heart awakened to His presence as you rest in His peace tonight.
