Praying the Scriptures
Tuesday Evening Prayer
December 30, 2025
“And Mary said, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.’” — Luke 1:46–49
Heavenly Father,
In the stillness of this high desert night, where the cool air settles over the mesquite and the vast canopy of stars stretches endlessly above, my soul rises to magnify You, O Lord. The day’s noises have faded into the silence of the plains, leaving room for my spirit to rejoice fully in God my Savior. I look out into the darkness and see the glory of Your creation, a reflection of the light You brought into the world six days ago, and I am filled with a profound gratitude that You are near.
I am humbled, Mighty One, that You would look with such favor upon the lowliness of Your servant. Just as You regard the humble distinct from the proud, You have done great things for me, filling my emptiness with Your presence. In this quiet corner of the world, far from the clamor of crowds, I feel the weight of Your holiness; it is a sacred burden that lifts me up rather than pressing me down, reminding me that the Creator of the heavens chose to be born among the least of us.
Your mercy flows like a river through time, reaching from the generations past to this very moment under the winter sky. As I prepare for rest, I trust in that ageless faithfulness, knowing that Your promise endures as surely as the mountains standing watch in the distance. Holy is Your name, O Lord, and may my heart continue to echo the song of praise started so long ago, holding close the wonder of the Incarnation as the night deepens around me.
Amen.
May the mercy of the Holy One, extending from generation to generation, embrace us all this night and fill our hearts with the enduring peace of this holy season.
