Praying the Scriptures
Friday Evening Prayer
January 16, 2026
“I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you, and praise your name forever and ever.” — Psalm 145:1-2
Almighty God and King,
As the sun dips below the horizon and the chill of this January Friday settles over the high desert, I lift my eyes to You in gratitude. The vastness of the Deming sky turns to indigo, and the quiet of the winter evening wraps around my home, offering a sacred pause after the labors of the week. In this stillness, I extol You, declaring that Your dominion stretches far beyond the visible mountains and plains, encompassing every corner of my life and every moment of time.
Every day I will bless You and praise Your name forever and ever, for my heart longs for a faith that remains steadfast even when the shadows lengthen. I confess that my human strength is often frail, and I sometimes struggle to see past the immediate darkness or the dry seasons of the soul. Yet, I trust in Your unsearchable greatness, knowing that You are the source of power that transcends my limitations. You are the light that pierces the gloom, reminding me that Your presence is constant, even when the path ahead seems obscured by the night.
As I prepare to rest, I place my hope in Your ability to bring forth growth from the smallest of beginnings, just as life persists in this arid land. Grant me the quiet confidence to trust that You are at work in the unseen places, transforming my weakness into strength and my uncertainty into resolve. May my sleep be peaceful and my spirit renewed, so that when the morning light returns, I may rise with a heart full of praise, ready to walk boldly in the assurance of Your love and grace.
Amen.
May the God of all peace watch over us this night, enveloping every heart in His rest and waking us together in the light of His grace.
