Praying the Scriptures

Friday Evening Prayer

January 2, 2026

“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love.”Ephesians 3:14–17

Almighty Father,

As the sun dips below the horizon and the evening chill settles over the high desert here in Deming, I bow my knees before You, the Creator from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. On this ninth night of Christmastide, while the silhouettes of the Florida Mountains fade into the darkening sky, I pause to acknowledge Your sovereignty and the quiet majesty of Your presence that surrounds us in this vast landscape.

I pray that, according to the riches of Your glory, You may grant that I be strengthened in my inner being with power through Your Spirit. Just as the desert plants must drive their roots deep into the dry earth to thrive, I ask that Christ may dwell in my heart through faith, so that I, being rooted and grounded in love, may stand firm against the shifting winds of this life.

May I comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth of the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that I may be filled with all the fullness of God. As the stars emerge over the New Mexico sky tonight, guard my rest and let the lingering joy of the Incarnation renew my spirit for the days ahead.

Amen.

May the boundless love that grounds us extend to bless every neighbor and stranger with peace and safety this night.
