Praying the Scriptures
Saturday Evening Prayer
January 17, 2026
“The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.” — Psalm 23:1-3
Gracious Shepherd,
As the winter sun fades behind the horizon and the chill of this January Saturday settles over the high desert here in Deming, I come to You seeking the deep rest that my spirit craves. The work of the week is finished, and the vast, cooling landscape around me mirrors the quiet stillness I desire within, a silence where I can lay down my burdens and simply be. I ask that You would quiet the noise of my mind just as the wind settles across the plains, allowing me to find peace in Your presence and to trust that You are watching over me in this season of dormancy and waiting.
Lord, You know how often I feel limited by my own weakness and how easily I am overwhelmed by the uncertainties that shadow my path. Yet, I trust that Your power is made perfect in my frailty, and that You are able to nurture the smallest grain of faith into something vibrant and life-giving. Lead me now beside the still waters of Your grace, restoring my soul not through my own striving, but through a surrender to Your strength, believing that You are constantly at work cultivating growth in the hidden, quiet places of my heart.
As the night deepens, I place my hope in Your guidance, confident that You will lead me along the right paths for the sake of Your name. Clear my vision to see Your hand at work, turning my small offerings into meaningful service, and prepare my heart for the worship and light of the coming day. May I rest securely tonight, wrapped in the assurance of Your protection, and wake with a renewed spirit, ready to follow You with a trusting and grateful heart.
Amen.
May the peace of the Good Shepherd surround us all this night, restoring our souls and leading us together into the promise of a new day.
