Praying the Scriptures

Saturday Evening Prayer

January 24, 2026

“I did not speak in secret, in a land of darkness; I did not say to the offspring of Jacob, ‘Seek me in chaos.’ I the LORD speak the truth, I declare what is right.” — Isaiah 45:19

Merciful Father,

As the winter sun dips below the western horizon and the last pink light fades from the rugged peaks of the Florida Mountains in the east, the January chill settles quickly over our high desert valley. In this quiet Saturday evening, the vastness of the darkening sky reminds me that You have not called Your people to seek You in a land of confusion or empty shadows. I come to You now, grateful for the stillness of this place, longing to hear Your voice which speaks righteousness and declares what is true, cutting through the noise of my own thoughts like the sharp, clean desert wind.

I thank You for the gift of baptism, that living water which flows through the lives of all who call upon Your name, binding us together despite our many differences. Though my faith sometimes feels as dry and dormant as the scrub brush in the winter cold, I trust that You are working within me to bring forth life from what appears small and weak. You do not hide Your purpose in riddles, but openly invite me to lean on a power far greater than my own, a divine strength that carries me when my resolve falters and bridges the distances my human frailty creates.

Grant me tonight a quiet confidence in Your ability to grow what is good, even from the smallest seeds of trust I offer up to You in the silence. As I prepare for rest, I lay down the burdens of this past week, secure in the knowledge that You are molding me and Your church into something new and whole. Let Your truth be the foundation of my sleep and the hope of my waking, that I may rise ready to walk in unity with my brothers and sisters, grounded in the grace that has claimed and cleansed us all.

Amen.

May the God of all hope, who has washed us in the same living waters, keep us united in spirit and guard our rest this night.
