Praying the Scriptures

Wednesday Evening Prayer

January 21, 2026

“In my distress I called upon the LORD; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.”Psalm 18:6

Gracious Father,

As the January sun dips below the horizon to the west, casting long shadows across the high desert here in Deming, the chill of the evening settles over the land. I look out toward the Florida Mountains, standing silent and steadfast in the fading light, and I am reminded of the quiet solitude that winter brings to this arid landscape. In this stillness, I pause to offer up the fragments of my day, acknowledging the weariness that sometimes clouds my spirit and the smallness I feel against the vastness of your creation.

In this season where we are called to one hope, I confess my need for your presence, knowing that my voice is not lost in the wind but reaches your ears in your holy temple. Just as the stars begin to pierce the velvet darkness above, I trust in your power to illuminate the shadowed corners of my life and to bridge the divides that separate your children. Help me to rely not on my own limited strength, but on the assurance that you are listening, binding us together in a shared expectation of your glory, and working perfectly within our human weakness to reveal your strength.

Grant me the quiet confidence to believe that you are cultivating growth deep beneath the frozen soil of my heart, preparing to bring forth new life from what seems dormant and small. As I rest this night, let me be anchored in the singular hope that sustains your people across the world, trusting that your light will guide my path when the morning comes. May my slumber be peaceful and my waking be filled with a renewed resolve to trust in you, knowing that you remain my rock and my deliverer through every season.

Amen.

May the God of all comfort unite us in the one hope to which we are called, guarding our rest this night and empowering us to rise together in his unfailing light.
