Praying the Scriptures
Thursday Morning Prayer
January 15, 2026
“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words.” — Romans 8:26
Holy and gracious God,
As the pale light of this January Thursday begins to silhouette the peaks of the Florida Mountains, I come to You in the stillness of the high desert morning. The air is sharp and cold, settling over the mesquite and the dormant earth, creating a silence that mirrors the quiet waiting of my own soul. In this moment of awakening, I acknowledge my need for Your presence, feeling the vastness of Your creation surrounding this valley and the small, humble place I occupy within it.
You know, Lord, that my spirit is willing but my flesh is often weak, and I confess that I do not always know how to pray as I ought. I rest in the assurance that when my words fail and my understanding falls short, Your Spirit is present, interceding for me with sighs too deep for utterance. In the midst of my uncertainties and the hidden struggles of my heart, I ask for the grace to trust in Your power that works beyond my human limitations, believing that You are present even in the silence and the shadows.
Grant me a quiet confidence as I step into the duties of this day, trusting that You are bringing forth life and growth even where I cannot yet see the evidence. Just as the winter sun slowly warms this land, may Your love warm my heart, turning my weakness into a vessel for Your strength and my hesitation into hope. I place my trust in Your ability to nurture the smallest seeds of faith within me, guiding me to walk faithfully through the hours ahead with a renewed sense of purpose and peace.
Amen.
May the Spirit who helps us in our weakness guide our hearts this day, that we may walk in the light of God's love with quiet confidence and renewed hope.
