Praying the Scriptures

Monday Evening Prayer

February 2, 2026

“And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.”Isaiah 35:10

Lord of the vast and open sky,

As the last light of this Monday fades behind the Florida Mountains and the high desert air turns sharp with the February chill, I come to You seeking a stillness that matches this quiet landscape. The week has only just begun, yet I already feel the weight of my own limitations and the smallness of my efforts against the expanse of the world around me. In this twilight, I confess a deep longing for a faith that is sturdier than the dry scrub brush trembling in the wind, a trust that is rooted deep enough to find water even in the parched places of my soul.

Into the deepening shadows of this evening, I ask that You speak Your power over my weakness, reminding me that the desert does not remain barren forever and that my spirit is not destined for perpetual drought. Where I see only the encroaching dark and the uncertainty of the days ahead, let Your presence break through like the first bright stars appearing above the mesas, transforming my heavy sighs into a quiet, internal melody of returning joy. I lay down the burden of trying to manufacture my own strength and instead surrender to Your capacity to ransom me from fear, trusting that You are working in the unseen spaces to turn my sorrow into a gladness that endures.

Grant me now a rest that is anchored in the confidence that You are the author of all growth, capable of bringing a harvest from the smallest seed of hope I plant tonight. As the cold settles over Deming, keep my heart warm with the anticipation of a morning where gladness overtakes grief, and where the dry ground of my life begins to bloom with new purpose. Let me sleep in the assurance that I am being led home to a place of wholeness, and that even in this winter season, You are preparing a way for life to spring forth in abundance.

Amen.

May the One who transforms the wilderness hold us all in safety this night, turning our collective sighing into a song of everlasting joy.
