Praying the Scriptures
Monday Evening Prayer
February 9, 2026
“You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’” — Psalm 91:1–2
Lord God,
As the sharp, dry chill of this February Monday settles over the high desert, I come to find rest in the stillness of Your presence. To the east, the jagged peaks of the Florida Mountains are fading into the purple twilight, standing as silent sentinels against the deepening night, while the vast sky above Deming opens up to the first few stars. The noise and rush of the week’s beginning fall away, leaving a silence that feels both expansive and intimate. In this quiet winter awakening, I seek the shelter You promise, longing to abide in a shadow that is not one of darkness, but of protection—a fortress where my weary soul can finally exhale and remember that I do not have to carry the world on my own shoulders.
You know the fragility I carry, the doubts that crept in during the daylight hours, and the way my own strength so often feels insufficient for the demands of this life. Yet, I place my trust in a power that is far beyond my human weakness, believing that You are the refuge that holds firm even when my own resolve wavers. Just as the heat of the day has surrendered to the cold, I surrender my need for control, asking that Your light would break through the uncertainties clouding my heart. Remind me that I do not need to be mighty to be held by the Almighty, and that even in the obscurity of this winter season, Your grace is actively at work, moving in the unseen spaces to bring order out of chaos.
Grant me the quiet confidence to believe that You are bringing life from the smallest seeds of faith I offer to You tonight. As this arid land waits patiently for the eventual return of spring, help me to wait with expectation for Your renewal, trusting that no prayer is too small and no moment too ordinary for Your transforming touch. Watch over me through the hours of darkness, rooting me deeper in Your love, and prepare my spirit to rise with the sun, ready to walk boldly in the assurance that You are my God, my dwelling place, and my hope for the day ahead.
Amen.
May the shadow of the Almighty be a sanctuary for us all this night, granting deep rest and holding every heart secure beneath His wings until the new day breaks.
