Praying the Scriptures

Thursday Evening Prayer

February 12, 2026

“Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this, that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”Luke 10:20

Lord,

As the sun sinks low behind me, casting a fading violet glow upon the jagged peaks of the Florida Mountains to the east, I pause in the stillness of this Thursday evening. The February air in the high desert has turned sharp and cold, settling over the creosote and the dust, bringing a quiet closure to the day’s labor. In this vast and open silence, where the horizon feels endless and the night comes on swiftly, I come before You acknowledging how small my efforts often seem and how quickly my own strength fades with the light.

Help me to shift my eyes from the temporary victories and struggles of this week to the eternal stability of Your love. I confess that I often look for reassurance in what I can control or the problems I have managed to solve, yet my heart longs for a deeper, more enduring anchor. Grant me the grace to find my joy not in the fleeting power I hold over my circumstances, but in the humble, awe-inspiring truth that I am known by You. Let my confidence rest not in my own limited ability to battle the darkness, but in the assurance that my life is held securely in Your keeping, written deeply and permanently in Your presence.

As the shadows finally merge into night, I surrender my need to see the immediate fruit of my work, trusting that You are bringing growth even now, in ways I cannot yet perceive. Just as the winter earth here waits in dormancy for the eventual blooms of spring, teach me to trust in the slow, unseen transformation You are working within my spirit. Watch over me through the darkness, and prepare my heart to rise tomorrow with a renewed sense of purpose, grounded in the peace of belonging wholly to You.

Amen.

May the peace of the One who knows us all by name settle upon every heart this night, granting us rest in the assurance that we are held in love.
