Praying the Scriptures

Tuesday Evening Prayer

July 8, 2025

When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears, and rescues them from all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit. (Psalm 34:17-18)

O Lord,

The sun has dipped behind Red Mountain, leaving the desert hushed beneath the rising stars. A cool breeze brushes my face, and the creosote whispers softly in the twilight stillness. I sit in this sacred silence, my heart full, my spirit worn, and yet—I know You are near.

You promised to draw close to the brokenhearted, and tonight, I cling to that promise like a lifeline. In this quiet, I feel the weight I carry—grief that lingers, questions unanswered, and prayers I’ve spoken in the dark. But even as tears come, so too does a gentle peace, as if You’ve wrapped the desert night around me like a shawl of comfort.

The heavens above are beginning to glimmer, each star a reminder that even in the deepest night, You shine. You hear the cries I cannot form. You hold the pain I cannot voice. You rescue not always by removing the trouble, but by entering it with me—walking beside me in the dust.

Thank You, Lord, for Your faithful nearness. Thank You for finding me out here beneath the wide New Mexico sky. Thank You for knowing my heart even when it trembles.

I will rest tonight not because I am strong, but because You are. And that is enough.

Amen.

May the Lord, who hears your every cry and holds your tender heart, grant you peace through the night and the gentle assurance of His steadfast love.
