Espera el tiempo de Dios

Con todo mi corazón te he buscado; no me dejes desviarme de tus mandamientos.

Esta semana aprendimos que debemos estar siempre preparados en lo espiritual a fin de poder afrontar las situaciones que se nos presentan en el diario vivir. Aprendimos sobre algunos de los errores que podemos cometer por alejarnos de Dios. Además, hablamos de tener muy presente con qué tipo de persona nos relacionamos, no solo en el ámbito de la amistad, sino también en los negocios, en los ministerios a los que nos asociamos y en quiénes llevamos a casa. En fin, necesitamos mucha sabiduría de nuestro Dios porque estos errores son muy frecuentes.

Ayer aprendimos que todo tiene su tiempo. Esto lo aplicamos al matrimonio, un paso tan importante y que muchos jóvenes dan sin siquiera estar seguros de amar a la otra persona. Es más, a veces se adelantan a lo que Dios les tiene o se dejan llevar por algunas personas que de manera irresponsable profetizan que serán marido y mujer. Entonces, cuando esas parejas se casan bajo tal presión ministerial, sus matrimonios no duran ni un suspiro. De ahí que cada vez veamos más jovencitas en las iglesias embarazadas y solas. ¡Niñas teniendo niños!

Que Dios nos ayude a ser buenos consejeros, líderes responsables, iglesias con doctrinas sanas y que las amistades con las que nos relacionemos sean sanas y adecuadas para los nuestros.

LIVING TO PLEASE GOD

WITHOUT FEAR

For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.

~ Isaiah 41:13 (NIV)

Today we share the testimony of overcoming fear from Sister Sarah in Bangladesh:

“I knew my husband since childhood. We grew up in same village and studied in same school. But his family was devoted to Islam; his father was a Muslim imam. Just imagine the disappointment when his family learned that he became a Christian! To leave Islam and marry me, a Christian girl, is to bring great shame to his family. It was like pouring more oil into the fire! His family plotted to kill him, but God save my husband from their hands.

“My in-laws blamed me and my parents for my husband’s conversion. My parents received lots of threats, finally forcing my parents to move to another place. Those days were very painful for me but my husband and I always prayed, ‘Lord help us stand firm in our faith.’ God would speak to my heart through His Word that He held me by His right hand… that I didn’t need to be afraid, because He was there to help (Isaiah 41:13).

“The first few years of my marriage were the toughest. We feared for our lives every night. During those years, we moved six times because of threat from my in-laws. After three years or so, my in-laws rejected my husband completely and they left him without inheritance. It was painful, but I also felt relieved, because that meant there would be fewer threats.

“When the tension lessened, I joined an organization that was working among disadvantaged women. I found joy in being with lots of people. I felt satisfaction in what I was doing, though it was for a secular company. Later on, however, it motivated me to pursue working with a Christian ministry. I began praying, ‘Lord I want to serve You by serving Your people. Would You please open a door for me and equip me for Your work?’

“God was quick to answer! In 2008, my husband and I enrolled in a Bible school abroad through the support of Open Doors. Throughout those four years of seminary training, God taught me to develop inner beauty through faith, obedience, courage, and prayer. I became more confident in introducing Christ to others, more supportive of my husband as he fulfilled his calling and potential, and more conscious of helping my children grow up as God-fearing persons.

“This year, we returned to our home country Bangladesh. My husband got an opportunity to serve God and His people through a Christian organization. Please pray that God will help me encourage my husband so that he remains faithful in his calling, raise my kids in a godly way, and obey His command to make disciples.”

RESPONSE: Today I will thank God that He is with me and I do not need to fear anything or anyone!

PRAYER: Pray that God’s promises will sustain Sarah and her husband in living for God without fear in their new ministry.

Failure is Not Final

Friend to Friend

Have you ever felt like a failure? I sure have. Jesus’ friend, Peter sure did.

Three days after Jesus breathed His last earthly breath, the disciples received the news of the empty tomb from the women who had gone to visit the grave. Mark tells us an angel told the women to go and “tell his disciples and Peter” that Jesus was alive (Mark 16:7).

I wonder why the angel singled out Peter. Could it be that God knew Peter would need an extra measure of grace and assurance because of his failure?

Can you imagine how Peter’s heart raced as his feet ran to the empty tomb? I wonder what he was thinking as he kicked up the dust. Would he be ashamed to face Jesus after denying that he even knew Him? Would he be grateful for another chance? Would Jesus even want to see him?

Peter did encounter Jesus after His resurrection. We don’t know how many times they were together or when the conversations took place, but God does allow us to witness how Jesus embraced and restored this broken “rock.”

After Jesus had appeared to the disciples and to many others, life seemed to go back to normal. Peter and John returned to what they had always done—fishing.

One morning, as the sun rose over the horizon, their nets remained empty.

A man called from the shore, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?”

“No,” they answered.

He said, “Throw your net on the other side of the boat and you will find some” (John 21:5-7).

As the nets began to fill, John remembered a similar incident that occurred three years earlier, and he realized the man on the shore was Jesus.

Peter jumped into the water and swam to shore while the others hauled in the miraculous catch. After dinner, Jesus pulled Peter aside and asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”

“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”

Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”

Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”

Jesus said, “Feed my sheep” (John 21:15-17).

Jesus knew Peter would fail him, and yet his failure wasn’t fatal. Jesus invited Peter to repentance and restoration. “I believe in you, Peter,” He seemed to say. “Now get back to being a fisher of men rather than a fisher of fish.”

A friend of mine carried the guilt of her past abortions around with her for years. Finally she received God’s forgiveness. “I was like Peter,” she explained. “I denied Jesus each time I walked through the door of that abortion clinic. But He has pulled me aside and asked, ‘June, do you love Me?’ And I have answered as Peter, ‘Yes, Lord, You know that I love You.’

“I had felt my failure was too grave, that I was too far gone for God to forgive me,” June explained, “but He showed me no place is so far away from His grace that He cannot save. My sin is never greater than God’s grace.”

I don’t know what sins you’ve committed in the past…but God does. He is ready and willing to forgive you of every thing you’ve ever done. Failure is not final. Failure is not fatal. All you have to do is ask.

Let’s Pray

Heavenly Father, I come to You today confessing my sin of ___________. I ask that You forgive me for _______________. Thank You for forgiving me, just as Your Word promised. Thank You for wiping my slate clean with the cloth of grace.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

"Heart Language"

When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. And they were amazed and astonished, saying, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God." And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, "What does this mean?"

What is your heart language? Chances are that, even if you're multi-lingual, you have one language which is closest to your heart. This is often the language your parents spoke to you, the language of your early childhood. It is the one your mother used to sing to you, your father told you stories in, your brothers and sisters used to tease you with. No matter how many languages you learn later, this one will always say "home."

This might be the reason why God chose to do a very specific miracle on the day of Pentecost. Oh, He could have done anything, but to make sure the message of Jesus got out to as many people as possible, God gave the first Christians the gift of miraculous speech. Without ever having studied, they were able to tell the story of Jesus in the languages of the pilgrims gathered in Jerusalem that day—people from across the known world. And the people listened. Three thousand were baptized that day.

A lot of people have noticed a connection with the story of Babel in Genesis. At Babel, God confused the languages of the world so no one could understand their neighbors; at Pentecost, God brought people from many languages together through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And yet, if we look more closely, we see it is not a simple reversal of Babel. The new Christians still speak many different languages, and they will keep doing that. But they will take the one message of our dying and rising Savior back to their own people groups and tell it to others in their own language. There will be one church but many languages; one body of Christ, but many nations.

God did not take their individuality away from them; He doesn't take it away from us, either. You are valuable to Him as His chosen, one-of-a-kind child. You are not simply part of a mass, one of the billions of people for whom Jesus died. You are someone God knows by name. God speaks your language and calls you to Himself.

THE PRAYER: Dear Father, please let everyone hear about Your Son Jesus in their own heart languages, so they may believe. Amen.

Cuando llegó el día de Pentecostés, todos ellos estaban juntos y en el mismo lugar. De repente, un estruendo como de un fuerte viento vino del cielo, y sopló y llenó toda la casa donde se encontraban. Entonces aparecieron unas lenguas como de fuego, que se repartieron y fueron a posarse sobre cada uno de ellos. Todos ellos fueron llenos del Espíritu Santo, y comenzaron a hablar en otras lenguas, según el Espíritu los llevaba a expresarse. En aquel tiempo vivían en Jerusalén judíos piadosos, que venían de todas las naciones conocidas. Al escucharse aquel estruendo, la multitud se juntó, y se veían confundidos porque los oían hablar en su propia lengua. Estaban atónitos y maravillados, y decían: «Fíjense: ¿acaso no son galileos todos estos que están hablando? ¿Cómo es que los oímos hablar en nuestra lengua materna? Aquí hay partos, medos, elamitas, y los que habitamos en Mesopotamia, Judea, Capadocia, el Ponto y Asia. ¿Cuál es el idioma de tu corazón? Es muy probable que, incluso si eres políglota, tengas un idioma que está más cerca de tu corazón. Este es a menudo el idioma que tus padres hablaron, el idioma de tu primera infancia. Es el idioma con el que tu madre solía cantarte, tu padre te contaba historias, tus hermanos y hermanas solían bromear. No importa cuántos idiomas aprendas, tu primera lengua siempre significará "hogar".

Esta podría ser la razón por la que Dios eligió hacer un milagro muy específico en el día de Pentecostés. Bien pudo haber hecho cualquier milagro, pero para asegurarse de que el mensaje de Jesús llegara a la mayor cantidad de personas posible, Dios les dio a los primeros cristianos el don del habla milagroso. Sin haber estudiado nunca, pudieron contar la historia de Jesús en los idiomas de los peregrinos reunidos en Jerusalén ese día: personas de todo el mundo conocido. Las personas escuchaban... y tres mil fueron bautizadas ese día.

Muchos han notado una conexión con la historia de Babel en Génesis. En Babel, Dios confundió los idiomas del mundo para que nadie pudiera entender a su prójimo; en Pentecostés, Dios reunió a personas de muchos idiomas a través del Evangelio de Jesucristo. Y, sin embargo, si miramos más de cerca, vemos que no es una simple inversión de Babel. Los nuevos cristianos todavía hablan muchos idiomas diferentes, y seguirán haciéndolo. Pero llevarán el único mensaje de nuestro Salvador a sus propios vecinos y ellos a su vez lo contarán a otros, y todo en su propio idioma. Habrá una iglesia, pero muchos idiomas; un cuerpo de Cristo, pero muchas naciones.

Dios no les quitó su individualidad y tampoco nos la quita a nosotros. Tú eres de valor para él, porque él te ha elegido como hijo suyo. No eres simplemente parte de una multitud, uno de los miles de millones de personas por las cuales murió Jesús. Eres alguien que Dios conoce por su nombre. Dios habla tu idioma y te llama para sí mismo.

ORACIÓN: Amado Padre, ayúdame a llevar tu mensaje para que muchos más escuchen acerca de tu hijo Jesús y puedan creer. Amén.

“Fui da carroça ao homem que andou na Lua,” disse o vovô à neta, que compartilhou esta história comigo recentemente. E continuou: “Nunca pensei que isso poderia ocorrer em tão pouco tempo.”

A vida é curta, e muitos de nós voltamos para Jesus, pois queremos viver para sempre. Isso significa que não compreendemos o verdadeiro significado da vida eterna. Tendemos a ansiar por coisas erradas. Ansiamos por algo melhor, e pensamos que está logo à frente. Se eu estivesse fora da escola, tivesse esse emprego, fosse casado ou pudesse me aposentar. Se apenas… E então um dia ouvimos o eco da voz do avô ao refletirmos sobre o tempo que voou.

A verdade é que possuímos a vida eterna agora. Paulo escreveu: “…a lei do Espírito da vida, em Cristo Jesus, te livrou da lei do pecado e da morte” (v.2). E disse: “…os que se inclinam para a carne cogitam das coisas da carne; mas os que se inclinam para o Espírito, das coisas do Espírito” (v.5). Em outras palavras, os nossos desejos mudam quando chegamos a Cristo. Isso naturalmente nos dá o que mais desejamos. “Porque o pendor da carne dá para a morte, mas o do Espírito, para a vida e paz” (v.6).

A grande mentira da vida é de que precisamos estar em outro lugar, fazer outra coisa, com outra pessoa antes de começar a viver verdadeiramente. Ao encontrarmos Jesus, trocamos a mágoa pela brevidade da vida pela plena alegria da vida com Ele, agora e para sempre.

Para vivermos eternamente, 
devemos deixar Jesus viver em nós agora.
