Psalm 119:105-112
Your word is a lamp to my feet
Lucerna pedibus meis

Your word is a lantern to my feet *
and a light upon my path.

I have sworn and am determined *
  to keep your righteous judgments.

I am deeply troubled; *
preserve my life, O LORD, according to your word.

Accept, O LORD, the willing tribute of my lips, *
  and teach me your judgments.

My life is always in my hand, *
yet I do not forget your law.

The wicked have set a trap for me, *
but I have not strayed from your commandments.

Your decrees are my inheritance for ever; *
truly, they are the joy of my heart.

I have applied my heart to fulfill your statutes *
for ever and to the end.

Heavenly Father, Your word describes many blessings that believers can receive directly from Your hand. We trust Your word, and as believers we know by experience that Your word is true. You have never failed us, and You have never failed to keep Your word. But we confess that we have failed You and others, so teach us good judgment and give us greater knowledge of Your will. For Jesus' sake, forgive us for our failures and sins. Fill us now with the knowledge, love, power and Spirit of Jesus Christ so we can grow in faithfulness and grace. Use us to bring Your blessings to others that they might rejoice in You. We pray through Jesus Christ, Who taught us to pray,
“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.”
Isaiah 2:1-4
Jacob collective name of Israel

This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:

In the last days
the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established
    as the highest of the mountains;
it will be exalted above the hills,
and all nations will stream to it.
Many peoples will come and say,
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the temple of the God of Jacob.
He will teach us his ways,
so that we may walk in his paths.”
The law will go out from Zion,
the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
He will judge between the nations
and will settle disputes for many peoples.
They will beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not take up sword against nation,
nor will they train for war anymore.
John 12:44-50
I have come as light into the world

Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

“If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them at the last day. For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken. I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say.”

The year which ended at Advent 2022 was Year A. These readings complement the Sunday and festival readings: Thursday through Saturday readings help prepare the reader for the Sunday ahead; Monday through Wednesday readings help the reader reflect and digest on what they heard in worship. The Morning Prayer for Saturday, July 15, 2023

The Morning Prayer
Saturday, July 15, 2023

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall exult in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Lord our God, grant that we may find the power of your Spirit so that we may live on a higher level, no longer controlled by our lower natures but strengthened to take up the battle of life. May we be children of the Spirit and may we walk in the Spirit. Guard us against carelessness and keep us joyful and courageous. Help us and counsel us on all our ways so that we may honor you and testify that you are our God, our true help. Amen.

Verse of the Day
Saturday, July 15, 2023

James 1:21
Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
Salvation comes not from the use of worldly methods, but from a meek, gentle acceptance of the implanted word, which God has caused to take root in the heart.

That The World May Know
When the Rabbi Says, Come

Volume 6 | Episode 1

The ancient land of Israel is a testimony, an evidence if you will, of the greatness of what God did in that country, a testimony to the truth of the words that we find in the pages of the Bible.

Volume 6 of the "Faith Lessons" series In The Dust of the Rabbi: Becoming a Disciple transports you to locations in Israel and Turkey to learn how the early church lived as disciples of Jesus. Come and follow teacher and historian Ray Vander Laan into the life of a talmid (disciple). Learn about how following a rabbi wasn't simply a hobby. It was a passion that was the driving force behind every action, every thought. And ask yourself, how passionate are you to follow Jesus?

In Episode 1, there was an old Jewish saying that said to follow a rabbi was to be covered with the dust of his feet. When Jesus says, Come, how close to him do you get? Travel into Galilee and see how the text, the community, and becoming like the rabbi drive the early disciples.
