1  O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger,
     or discipline me in your wrath.
2  Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing;
    O Lord, heal me, for my bones are shaking with terror.

The Morning Prayer for WEDNESDAY, July 10, 2019

Wednesday morning prayer

Lord on this day of the week I recall the strength of the Trinity in my life. Thank you for the strands that hold me safe in the Father, that bring redemption and grace in the Son, and freedom and hope through the Holy Spirit. Thank you for this cord of strength. May I celebrate with the Three that encircle my life! And this day may I give out the love of the Father, the grace of the Son and the freedom of the Holy Spirit in all I do. Amen.

May Wednesday be a dwelling day,

Curled up on Abba's knee.

Following in the path of Christ,

With His Spirit I'm set free.

Let Wednesday always prompt my heart

To travel home to nest.

To feel the blessings of my faith

To know Your peace and rest.

Semana de pacto con Dios: La lengua

La lengua es un miembro muy pequeño del cuerpo, pero hace alarde de grandes hazañas. ¡Imagínense qué gran bosque se incendia con tan pequeña chispa!

Dicen los que saben que la lengua es uno de los órganos más pequeños del cuerpo. Con la lengua también se hace referencia al sistema de comunicación o idioma de una comunidad. Este órgano posee las glándulas gustativas que nos ayudan a disfrutar los alimentos. Sin embargo, la lengua también se menciona en la Biblia como una advertencia que nos ha dejado Dios para que la usemos bien, ya que puede causar mucho daño, como es en el caso de la murmuración. Dios califica la murmuración o chisme como pecado.

Con la lengua se puede destruir a una persona. Menos mal que solo nos dio una lengua. ¿Te imaginas si tuviéramos más?

Hoy, al igual que toda esta semana, estamos viendo cómo cada uno de estos miembros de nuestro cuerpo se creó con un propósito divino, pero que a veces los hombres les hemos dado un mal uso.

Del mismo modo que en los demás devocionales, aclaro que no todos usan mal la lengua.

Hay otras personas que bendicen con sus palabras y no se prestan para hablar ni hacerles daño a los demás.

Señor, hoy me comprometo a guardar mi lengua y a honrarte con ella.

TRAINING IN RIGHTEOUSNESS

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

~ 1 Corinthians 9:25 (NIV)

A young Romanian Christian was called in to the secret police for interrogation. He had dreaded this moment. Fear gripped him throughout and he was unable to give a categorical rejection to the police offers of good treatment and security if he would only inform on his fellow-believers. He did not accept the offer either, but his inability to reject it unquestioningly brought personal agony.

He could not sleep that night because of his fear and guilt. The next morning led of the Holy Spirit, an older Christian came to visit the family. He was unaware of the young man’s dilemma. Being a former prisoner for his faith, he was able to counsel the young man from Scripture about his situation. He built up the young man in fellowship, training him for the next ordeal.

It came the same afternoon when the youth was taken in for his second interrogation. The same thing happened and the young man was still upset by his answers. Again the older believer came to encourage him.

Three days of more interrogations passed. Eventually the young man was able to reject the police offer completely. With no further hold on him, the police let him go. Counsel, prayer and patient caring had brought him through and trained him in righteousness.

To maintain biblical integrity, let us consider training as a prescribed course in righteousness in which each individual is disciplined through practice to be obedient to God’s direction for mankind and able to withstand the schemes of the devil.

People who commit themselves for a cause have a right to expect training in the job for which they have been selected. In some of the trades, this is called “apprenticeship.” In medicine, it is known as “internship.” In the military, it is referred to as “basic training.” In scripture, it is referred to as “discipleship.” However, in our modern day, training is often by-passed due to the pressures of time, need and a low value placed upon the office to be filled. This was not the case with Jesus in His selection and training of His disciples.

After calling His men to be with Him, he challenged them to commit themselves to following after Him—to be “fishers of men.” Jesus then began to train them to become His kind of “fishers of men.”

RESPONSE: I want to be a trained disciple of Jesus Christ. I will submit to His guidance and discipline.

PRAYER: Lord, help me to realize and accept Your “training” process as I follow You today.

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, ... just as you learned it from Epaphras our beloved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf, ... And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.

The power of prayer must have been a remarkable thing in the life of the apostle Paul. How encouraging it would have been to hear him offer words of praise and thanksgiving to God for all He brought him through—the perils, the persecutions—as well as the joys and victories. Through it all he prayed, knowing that the God who took all our sins away by the shed blood of His Son surely is hearing his prayer—and the prayers of all believers—offered up in faith and love and hope.

And so it is for the believers at Colossae, a town in Asia Minor about 100 miles east of Ephesus, that Paul and Timothy prayed. Never far back in Paul's mind was the spiritual health of the various churches he visited in his missionary journeys. In this case the church was founded by a believer named Epaphras, a "beloved fellow servant" who provided instruction and taught the budding congregation. From him the believers there heard "the truth, the Gospel" (Colossians 1:5b).

It's good to know when the path you're on is one worth taking. Paul reminds his hearers that they have encountered truth—truth of the divine kind—and that they should remain firm in the faith they have received. "Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving" (Colossians 2:6-7).

Again, the timeless relevance of Scripture—speaking then and to us today: "See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in Him, who is the head of all rule and authority" (Colossians 2:8-9). How often these words hit home with us today. Online access to the world's diverse knowledge and points of view is wonderful, daunting, and presents a real challenge to our faith in Christ—if we're not careful to stay grounded in the God's Word.

Always praying for believers, taking pains to keep them focused on God's Word—Paul sends a message to us today: uplift the church, be mindful of the world's temptations, and "put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its Creator" (Colossians 3:10b).

THE PRAYER: Heavenly Father, renew us daily for the tasks before us. By Your Spirit may our lives be pleasing to You and a blessing to others. In Jesus' Name we pray. Amen.

Siempre que oramos por ustedes, damos gracias a Dios, el Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, pues hemos recibido noticias de la fe de ustedes en Cristo Jesús, y del amor que tienen por todos los santos... Esto lo aprendieron por medio de Epafras, nuestro consiervo amado, que es un fiel ministro de Cristo para ustedes... Por eso nosotros, desde el día que lo supimos, no cesamos de orar por ustedes y de pedir que Dios los llene del conocimiento de su voluntad en toda sabiduría e inteligencia espiritual, para que vivan como es digno del Señor, es decir, siempre haciendo todo lo que a él le agrada, produciendo los frutos de toda buena obra, y creciendo en el conocimiento de Dios.

El poder de la oración debe haber sido algo notable en la vida del apóstol Pablo. ¡Qué alentador debe haber sido escucharlo ofreciendo palabras de alabanza y agradecimiento a Dios por todo lo que le había enseñado: los peligros, las persecuciones, las alegrías y las victorias!

Pablo oraba sabiendo que el Dios que quitó todos nuestros pecados con la sangre de su Hijo estaba escuchando su oración y las oraciones de todos los creyentes, ofrecidas en fe, amor y esperanza.

Así fue también para los creyentes en Colosas, una ciudad en Asia Menor a unas 100 millas al este de Éfeso, quienes oraron por Pablo y Timoteo. Pablo siempre tenía en mente la salud espiritual de las iglesias que visitaba en sus viajes misioneros. En este caso, la iglesia había sido fundada por un creyente llamado Epafras, un "consiervo amado" que proporcionó instrucción a la congregación. De él, los creyentes escucharon "el evangelio, que es la palabra de verdad" (Colosenses 1:5b).

Es bueno saber cuándo el camino en el que te encuentras vale la pena. Pablo les recuerda a sus oyentes que se han encontrado con la verdad, la verdad divina, y que deben permanecer firmes en la fe que han recibido. "Por tanto, vivan en el Señor Jesucristo de la manera que lo recibieron: arraigados y sobreedificados en él, confirmados en la fe y rebosantes de acciones de gracias, que es como fueron enseñados" (Colosenses 2:6-7).

Nuevamente vemos la relevancia atemporal de las Escrituras que nos habla a nosotros hoy: "Cuídense de que nadie los engañe mediante filosofías y huecas sutilezas, que siguen tradiciones humanas y principios de este mundo, pero que no van de acuerdo con Cristo. Porque en él habita corporalmente toda la plenitud de la Deidad" (Colosenses 2:8-9). Cuán a menudo estas palabras nos tocan. El acceso en línea a los diversos conocimientos y puntos de vista del mundo es maravilloso, pero representa un verdadero desafío para nuestra fe en Cristo si no tenemos cuidado de permanecer arraigados en la Palabra de Dios.

Siempre orando por los creyentes y esforzándose por mantenerlos enfocados en la Palabra de Dios, Pablo nos envía un mensaje: animen a la iglesia y sean conscientes de las tentaciones del mundo, ahora que "se han revestido de la naturaleza del nuevo hombre, que se va renovando a imagen del que lo creó hasta el pleno conocimiento," (Colosenses 3:9-10).

ORACIÓN: Padre celestial, renuévanos diariamente para las tareas que tenemos ante nosotros. Haz que, por tu Espíritu, nuestras vidas te agraden y sean de bendición para los demás. En Jesús oramos. Amén.

Em 2004, a esquiadora canadense Beckie Scott recebeu uma medalha de ouro olímpica. Os Jogos Olímpicos de Inverno tinham sido realizados em 2002, nos EUA. Ela tinha recebido a de bronze, mas duas atletas foram desqualificadas meses depois, quando se soube que tinham usado substâncias proibidas.

Foi bom ela, finalmente, ter recebido o ouro, mas foi-se para sempre o momento em que poderia estar no pódio e ouvir o seu hino nacional. Essa injustiça não poderia ser reparada.

A injustiça de qualquer espécie nos perturba, e com certeza, há erros muito maiores do que lhe ser negado uma medalha arduamente conquistada. A história de Caim e Abel mostra um ato final de injustiça (Gênesis 4:8). À primeira vista, poderia parecer que Caim se deu bem com o assassinato de seu irmão. Afinal, ele teve vida longa e plena, e construiu uma cidade (v.17).

Mas Deus confrontou Caim: “Que fizeste? A voz do sangue de teu irmão clama da terra a mim” (v.10). O Novo Testamento registrou Caim como um exemplo a ser evitado (1 João 3:12, Judas 1:11). Mas sobre Abel lemos: “Pela fé, Abel […] mesmo depois de morto, ainda fala” (Hebreus 11:4).

Deus se preocupa com a justiça, com a retificação dos erros e a defesa dos impotentes. Ninguém consegue escapar com atos de injustiça nem Deus deixa de recompensar nossa obra feita em fé por Ele.

O pecado não será julgado pelo modo como o vemos, 
mas pelo modo como Deus o vê.
