The Morning Prayer for FRIDAY, June 14, 2019

Friday morning prayer

Lord on this day I am aware of the troubles and darkness in our world. Please come and lead me in prayers for my community, my nation and the world. You are the light that shines in the bleakest times, let your Kingdom be built on earth. May those who suffer be comforted, may those who are at war search for peace, and may those who are in pain find healing. Amen.

May Friday be a thoughtful day

When Your Spirit leads my prayer.

I trust each trouble small and wide,

With faith into Your care.

Let Friday always prompt my heart

To stand upon the truth.

Darkness has been overcome

The Earth belongs to You.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;

¿Temor a Dios?

El principio de la sabiduría es el temor del Señor; buen juicio demuestran quienes cumplen sus preceptos.

Ayer el versículo con que finalicé la enseñanza encierra esta frase: «El temor del Señor». Quise retomarlo porque cuando se empieza a conocer un poco más la Palabra, cuando comenzamos a asistir a una iglesia evangélica o cuando escuchamos a pastores o cristianos, es muy común escuchar acerca del temor al Señor o a Dios. A menudo, en esto se ve el miedo que sienten algunos a lo que pudiera hacerles Dios, como el temor que sintieron Adán y Eva después de desobedecerlo en el jardín del Edén al comer del árbol prohibido.

Sin embargo, el libro de Proverbios no se refiere al temor de que nos haga daño Dios, sino que se refiere a no querer ofenderlo sabiendo que Él tiene un corazón amoroso. En conclusión, esta palabra bajo este contexto de Proverbios significa reverencia y respeto.

También dice otro versículo que «el comienzo de la sabiduría es el temor del Señor» y que «conocer al Santo es tener discernimiento» (Proverbios 9:10).

Lo más importante es que cada día le pidamos a Dios sabiduría a fin de ser obedientes y agradarlo siempre. No hay nada más hermoso que poder vivir respetando y agradando a nuestro Padre, en lugar de hacer las cosas por miedo o cobardía.

Standing Strong Through the Storm - Friday, June 14, 2019

PRAY FOR PERSECUTORS

“But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.”

~ Luke 6:27-28 (NIV)

In Luke chapter six, Jesus defines persecution with four verbs: hatred, exclusion, insult and rejection (Luke 6:22). But later in the chapter Jesus gives much more emphasis on how you and I are to respond to persecution that comes our way.

One of the great lessons from the persecuted church is praying for those who persecute you. This is a parallel principle with loving your enemies. Multiple examples can be shared how God has honored this principle of prayer:

Noskie was a former Imam in the southern part of the Philippines. He was a devout Muslim and one who generated respect from that little community in which he lived. Coming home from a fishing expedition one day, he was shocked to discover that his two daughters had converted to Christianity. He was well aware of the shame that this would bring to the whole community.

In his anger, he mercilessly beat them hoping that they would renounce their new faith. But the daughters remained faithful. They loved their father and knew that nothing was impossible with God so they started praying for their father’s conversion.

Sometime later, while fishing, Noskie felt a sudden piercing pain in his stomach. As the pain intensified, his belly began to balloon. He writhed in unbearable pain. He prayed but nothing happened. In desperation he cried out to the God of his daughters, Jesus Christ, and was instantly healed.

Noskie emerged from the experience a new person. He submitted his heart and surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Today he faithfully serves the Lord as a lay pastor. His daughters help in the ministry.

RESPONSE: I am committed to respond to persecution with non-violence as Jesus taught.

PRAYER: Lord, I realize today that when I pray for my enemy and love my enemy, he or she is no longer my enemy. Help me to always respond this way.

Elijah

His name means: "Yahweh Is My God"

His work: Elijah was a prophet active in Israel in the middle of the ninth century BC. His primary work was to combat Baal worship and restore the worship of the true God of Israel.
His character: Like Moses, who stood against the false gods of Egypt and the oppression of Pharaoh, Elijah was a prophet who stood against the worship of Baal at great risk to himself. To do so meant defying Ahab and Jezebel, Israel's royal couple, and trusting God to take care of him when his life was threatened by famine and violence.
His sorrow: Though Elijah was not the only true prophet left in Israel, he appears to have thought he was, perhaps because the rest of the prophets were silent and in hiding. Exhausted after his battle with the false prophets of Baal and his narrow escape from Queen Jezebel, he became so despondent that he prayed God would take his life. Instead, the Lord sent an angel to strengthen him.
His triumph: Elijah was a miracle-working prophet, whose powerful prayer life and whose persistence in speaking God's word helped preserve the faith of God's people during a time of religious persecution.

A Look at the Man

"How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him." Elijah's no-nonsense challenge seems all the more powerful, all the more compelling nearly three thousand years later because of the witness of his life.

Persecuted for speaking the truth, hunted by powerful enemies, he was a man with the unenviable task of speaking truth to those who held the truth in contempt. His enemies had not only embraced a lie but were forcing it on others. At times the task seemed too heavy to bear. But just when he thought he could not possibly go on, God supplied whatever he needed—rest, food, strength, hope. Elijah never lacked the grace to remain faithful to God. His dedication was unwavering.

It's tempting to think of the prophets as superhuman figures, fanatics who relished delivering one thundering pronouncement after another. But preserving the truth in a time of darkness is the costliest of ventures. It would have taken tremendous moral, emotional, and physical strength to stand against the king and queen, their prophets, and all the rank and file who had embraced their false gods. But strength wouldn't have been enough. Such a task also would have required love—love for God and for the people who had strayed so far from him. Love is what must have kept Elijah on the path God had chosen for him.

Elijah's strong words still strike a chord today. They remind us to stop wavering between two opinions, to stop hedging our bets and straddling the line when it comes to living out our faith in a world that is so often hostile to faith. They remind us that if the Lord truly is God, then we must follow him. And following him means loving him with all our hearts.

Reflect On: 1 Kings 18:41–46; 19:1–8
Praise God: For hearing our prayers.
Offer Thanks: For the way God has answered your prayers in the past.
Confess: Any tendency to believe your prayers won’t make a difference.
Ask God: To show you how to pray for the things he has promised.

If You Feel Like a Hot Mess, You’re Not Alone!

Friend to Friend

Sometimes I feel like such a mess, I wonder what God even wants with me. And then He reminds me that ALL His children are a mess in one way or another.

A common theme throughout Scripture is overcoming failure. Abraham passed his wife, Sarah, off as his sister because of fear (Genesis 12 and 20). Lot failed to stand up for what was right and offered his daughters to immoral men (Genesis 18-19). Jacob betrayed his father and stole his brother’s blessing (Genesis 27). Moses struck the rock twice in anger when God commanded him to strike it once (Numbers 20:11). Aaron gave into peer pressure and made a golden calf (Exodus 32).

Miriam had a bout of jealousy and tried to usurp her brother’s God-appointed position (Numbers 12). Jonah hopped on a boat and headed in the opposite direction when God called him to go to Nineveh (Jonah 1:1-3). Samson fell for the whims of a Philistine woman and gave away the secret to his strength (Judges 16). David committed adultery and murder and then tried to cover it up (2 Samuel 11).

You know what’s amazing? Most of these men and women are listed as people of great faith who “conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies” (Hebrews 11:33-34, emphasis added).

We have a great cloud of witnesses who can identify with failure. We are never alone in that regard.
Oh, friend, failure doesn’t have to be fatal or final. During a time of failure, the Enemy will tell you to quit trying, that you’re hopeless, worthless, and powerless to succeed.

Don’t believe him. Reject the lie and replace it with truth. “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). “I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13 NLT). God said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Learn from your failure under the tutelage of the Holy Spirit, and then move on. Nothing makes the devil madder than a child of God who fails, gets back up, and tries again with the power of God moving him or her forward. The next time you feel like you’re a hot mess, try the following.

Recognize the lie: I’m such a failure.

Reject the lie: That is not true.

Replace the lie with truth: I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength (Philippians 4:13 NLT).

Let’s Pray

God, help me to learn from my mistakes and move on. Help me not to get stuck in the mire of my mistakes or the senselessness of my sin, or the remorse of my regret, but to move forward with the reassurance of Your complete forgiveness, mercy, and grace. I don’t deserve it. I thank You for it.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

"Showing Hospitality"

To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

The idea of Christ Jesus living inside a believer is not easily explainable. And it's certainly not something the world can comprehend. Even St. Paul calls it a mystery. Thankfully, though mysterious, the truth of God's Word is clear: Jesus lives inside of you, inside of me, inside of all those who believe in Him as their Savior.

And as a believer, the new life we live in Christ is a transformed life. Again, Paul writes, "I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me" (Galatians 2:20).

When you come to faith in Jesus, He comes to dwell in your heart; He takes up residence there. He lives within you so "that according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God" (Ephesians 3:16-19).

Such is the love of God that He would come to live in us, embracing the broken vessels of our lives and mending us with His healing Potter's touch. And why would He do such a thing? Judas himself wondered this (see John 14:22-23), and Jesus' answer to him has many facets, but He stresses that by means of the Holy Spirit, He will be living inside His disciples, carrying on His work through the lives of those who are His by faith (see John 14:15-31).

Just as Jesus called His disciples, lived in them, and worked through them, today He calls us. He calls us to submit our lives to Him, so He can carry on His mission through us. Do you hear Him knocking? As He dwells in our hearts, He wants to come through every door and enter every room in our lives. Into the rooms of our work, our wants, our talents, our finances, and our families, Jesus asks for them all—and He's calling today.

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with Me. The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with Me on My throne, as I also conquered and sat down with My Father on His throne" (Revelation 3:20-21).

THE PRAYER: Lord Jesus, may my life reflect to others the gracious hospitality You have shown to us. Amen.

La idea de que Cristo Jesús vive dentro de un creyente no es algo fácil de explicar. Y ciertamente no es algo fácil para que el mundo pueda comprender. Incluso San Pablo lo llama un misterio. Afortunadamente, aunque misteriosa, la verdad de la Palabra de Dios es clara: Jesús vive dentro de ti y de mí, y dentro de todos quienes creen en él como su Salvador.

Y, como creyente, la nueva vida que vivimos en Cristo es una vida transformada. Una vez más, Pablo escribe: "Pero con Cristo estoy juntamente crucificado, y ya no vivo yo, sino que Cristo vive en mí; y lo que ahora vivo en la carne, lo vivo en la fe del Hijo de Dios, el cual me amó y se entregó a sí mismo por mí" (Gálatas 2:20).

Cuando tienes fe en Jesús, él vive en ti. Dice Pablo: "para que por su Espíritu, y conforme a las riquezas de su gloria, los fortalezca interiormente con poder; para que por la fe Cristo habite en sus corazones, y para que, arraigados y cimentados en amor, sean ustedes plenamente capaces de comprender, con todos los santos, cuál es la anchura, la longitud, la profundidad y la altura del amor de Cristo; en fin, que conozcan ese amor, que excede a todo conocimiento, para que sean llenos de toda la plenitud de Dios" (Efesios 3:16-19).

Tal es el amor de Dios que él vendría a vivir en nosotros, abrazando los vasos rotos de nuestras vidas y reparándonos con su toque curador como el alfarero. ¿Y por qué haría tal cosa? Judas mismo se preguntó esto (ver Juan 14:22-23). La respuesta de Cristo tiene muchas facetas, pero él enfatiza que por medio del Espíritu Santo vivirá en sus discípulos, llevando a cabo su trabajo a través de las vidas de quienes son suyos por fe (ver Juan 14:15-31).

Así como Jesús llamó a sus discípulos, vivió en ellos y trabajó a través de ellos, hoy nos llama y nos pide que sometamos nuestras vidas a él para poder llevar a cabo su misión a través de nosotros. ¿Lo oyes llamar? Mientras habita en nuestros corazones, él quiere pasar por cada puerta y entrar a cada habitación en nuestra vida. En las habitaciones de nuestro trabajo, nuestros deseos, nuestros talentos, nuestras finanzas y nuestras familias, Jesús pregunta por todos ellos, y nos llama hoy.

"¡Mira! Ya estoy a la puerta, y llamo. Si alguno oye mi voz y abre la puerta, yo entraré en su casa, y cenaré con él, y él cenará conmigo. Al que salga vencedor, le concederé el derecho de sentarse a mi lado en mi trono, así como yo he vencido y me he sentado al lado de mi Padre en su trono" (Apocalipsis 3:20-21).

ORACIÓN: Señor Jesús, que mi vida refleje a los demás la misericordiosa hospitalidad que nos has mostrado. Amén.

Khi đang du lịch tại châu Á, máy tính bảng của tôi (là thiết bị chứa tài liệu và hồ sơ công việc) đột nhiên bị tắt, “màn hình tối đen”. Khi đi kiếm chỗ sửa, tôi tìm thấy một cửa hàng máy tính thì lại đối mặt với một vấn đề khác—tôi không biết nói tiếng Hoa mà nhân viên kỹ thuật của cửa hàng lại không biết nói tiếng Anh. Phải làm gì đây? Nhân viên ấy sử dụng một phần mềm chuyển ngữ. Anh gõ tiếng Hoa, nhưng tôi lại có thể đọc bằng tiếng Anh và ngược lại. Phần mềm đó đã giúp chúng tôi giao tiếp cách rõ ràng, dù khác ngôn ngữ.

Nhiều lúc, tôi cảm thấy không thể giãi bày lòng mình khi cầu nguyện với Cha Thiên Thượng—và không chỉ một mình tôi gặp điều đó. Đôi lúc nhiều người trong chúng ta cũng thấy khó khăn khi cầu nguyện. Nhưng sứ đồ Phao-lô viết: “Thánh Linh giúp đỡ sự yếu đuối của chúng ta, vì chúng ta không biết phải cầu nguyện điều gì cho đúng, nhưng chính Thánh Linh dùng những sự thở than không thể diễn tả bằng lời mà cầu thay cho chúng ta. Đấng dò xét lòng người, biết rõ ý tưởng của Thánh Linh, vì Thánh Linh theo ý muốn Đức Chúa Trời mà cầu thay cho các thánh đồ” (Rô. 8:26-27).

Đức Thánh Linh là món quà tuyệt vời biết bao! Tốt hơn bất cứ phần mềm chuyển ngữ nào, Ngài truyền tải cách rõ ràng những suy nghĩ và ước muốn của tôi trong sự hòa hợp với mục đích của Đức Chúa Cha. Công tác của Thánh Linh khiến lời cầu nguyện hiệu nghiệm!

Lạy Cha, cảm ơn Ngài đã ban Đức Thánh Linh và cho con đặc ân được cầu nguyện cùng Ngài. Xin giúp con nhờ cậy Thánh Linh Ngài trong những lúc khi con không biết phải cầu nguyện thế nào.
