Embracing Trust on God's Path
So Abraham called that place “The Lord will provide.”
Genesis 22:14a
Reflection

The story of Abraham and Isaac is a powerful testament to faith and obedience. When called upon to sacrifice his son, Abraham trusted in God's provision, even in the face of the seemingly impossible. This act of faith led him to declare, "The Lord will provide."

In our lives, we often encounter our own versions of Abraham's test. For Judson Van DeVenter, it was the call away from his cherished career in art to serve in evangelism. This was no easy choice. Art was not just a job for Judson; it was a passion, a part of his identity. Yet, the call to surrender was clear.

Like Abraham, who trusted in God's plan and inspired Genesis 22:14a, Judson Van DeVenter mirrored this faith in his own life. His journey of surrender, a difficult decision to leave behind his cherished art teaching for evangelism, led to the creation of the hymn I Surrender All, an anthem for many at life's crossroads. This act of letting go, a true test of our professed love for God, not only resulted in a timeless hymn but also steered Judson's path back to teaching, where he unknowingly mentored a young Billy Graham, destined to become an influential figure in evangelism.

Application

Today, reflect on what God might be asking you to surrender. It could be a career, a habit, a relationship, or even a dream. Consider Judson's example and take a moment to pray, asking for guidance and strength to trust in God's provision. Remember, in every act of surrender, there lies a potential for a deeper relationship with God and an opportunity for Him to work wonders in your life.

Conclusion

In conclusion, God's plans for our lives encompasses purposes that often transcend our comprehension. God seeks our willingness to relinquish those things we cherish deeply, a gesture that, though seemingly small in the broader context, gains profound significance when viewed against the backdrop of God's ultimate sacrifice: the giving of His only begotten Son. This narrative of surrender not only shapes our spiritual journey but also aligns us more closely with the expansive and mysterious plans God has for each of us.

Prayer

Lord, help us to trust in Your divine provision. When You call us to surrender, grant us the courage to let go and the faith to walk the path You've set before us. May we find peace in the knowledge that what we give up for You is never in vain, for in Your hands, our sacrifices become the groundwork for greater blessings. Amen.

Closing Thought

In the story of Abraham and Isaac, and in Judson Van DeVenter's life, we see a powerful truth: our greatest act of worship may not be in what we do for God, but in what we are willing to give up for Him. As we surrender, we declare our faith in His provision and our trust in His plan, opening our hearts to the fullness of His purpose for our lives.
