Steadfast in Faith:
A Journey Through Challenges
Consider him who endured … so that you may not grow weary or lose heart.
Hebrews 12:3 (NRSV)
Years ago, during her seminary studies, Karen regularly attended a weekly chapel service. In one memorable service, as the students sang “Great Is the Lord,” she noticed three esteemed professors singing passionately. Their expressions were alight with a joy that stemmed from deep faith. As time passed, each professor faced terminal illness. It was this unwavering faith that helped them bear their trials with fortitude and inspire others through their journey.
The enduring image of Karen's professors singing with such conviction remains a source of strength for her, especially during challenging times. These professors are among the numerous individuals Karen admires for their life of faith. They serve as a vivid illustration of the exhortation found in Hebrews 12:2-3, which urges believers to focus on Jesus, who "for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross."
